Had it installed yesterday, and now after trying to get my 4th Generation IPOD Nano to work I have come to the conclusion it does not support it. Would this be a true statement? I was told by the dealership here that any 30-pin connecting IPOD would work. I already told them I am not paying $300 for just a wire install in my glovebox so I need to know if I need to go get it uninstalled and my money back. Thanks...

Anyone know for sure??? The dealer said they were checking with BMW but I have not got an answer back yet. They said it could just be a software up date on their part but I dont know if I want to wait for BMW to push that out.

BMW iPod kits will not charge the current iPod models. This is the kit you need instead:
DICE - SILVERLINE iPod Integration Kit for 3 Series/M3 99-06 (Trunk Interface)
http://www.europeanautosource.com/product_info.php?products_id=1621
New features of DICE SILVERLINE iPod Integration kit include:
- Direct integrated connection, without the need for FM transmitters or cassette adapters
- Full Text Display on your factory radio or Navigation screen
- Full control of your iPod via the radio buttons while in play
- Browse by Individual Song
- Browse by Individual Playlist
- Browse by Individual Albums
- Source Selector w/ Integrated AUX input
- Album Selection
- Full charging mode for iPods through included dock connector
The kit will come with everything needed w/ the docking cable. The iPod can be safely stored away in the glove compartment for 100% stealth installation and accessed completely from the steering wheel controls. The DICE comes with a 15-foot cable length to reach anywhere in the vehicle you like. We have tutorials at the following link:

I have a question, just to verify the functionality of the Dice interface. I have a E46 Touring from 2001 with the standard radio/cd. No Nav or anything fancy. Also note that this is an European car (I'm from Belgium).
After connecting the Dice interface with the pre-wiring of the CD-changer in the back/trunk and connecting my iPod, I can do all the following with my BMW Radio :
- It turns on and charges with my car key
- I can scroll through playlists (and see the playlist name on the Radio screen)
- Select/Play a playlist
- Skip songs in the playlist
- Stop and select a different playlist
- It turns off with my car key
And I'll never need to go the trunk to change anything with my iPod? Except off course changing the music on the iPod...
Some of the interfaces only let you skip songs .. not select playlists, much like the older iPod wired remotes.
Thanks for the feedback of this product, seems like a fantastic product if it does all that.
Kind regards from Belgium, Michiel (Mike).

Tom I was looking at these but I can't even get my IPOD Nano 4th gen to play on the BMW system let alone charge. The charging I can deal without.

The BMW kits do not offer charging support for the current lineup of iPods, including iPhone/touch.

The BMW ipod kit WILL play the new generation ipods/nanos/iphones. If it is not playing, then there is something wrong with the kit they installed. In order to get the BMW kit to charge your newest generation is a Scoche charging adapter. Amazon has them for $25.

The BMW kit is not compatible with 2002 radios, you will need the DICE instead:
