Do it in 2x2. It's the most common twill pattern out there.

plain weave please. . .like the CSL weave, keep the "oem" theme going, even with CF

Hehe, that's the point -- the turbo has the intake on the passenger side so the OEM piece is not doing anything...

This should work well if you add a turbonator as well.

Almost ready. Just some more final touches for the decal and the interior air vane and we will have some real pictures posted on our site from the marketing staff.

Note: The carbon part on the top left is a 2x2 twill S54 engine cover which will be ready for sales at the same time as the air duct. Plus, an upgradeable 4.5-4" turbo inlet pipe for the LHD E46 M3 kit is coming soon...

JP,
Any retune needed to get the most out of the additional air?
HPF JP
02-23-2009, 05:18 PM
Stephan-Yah, there is no retune necessary for the HPF Air Duct.
Because this duct is not a "true" ram-air setup, the turbo inlet will not be pressurized. However, this duct integrates with the factory lower duct (above the intercooler) and now allows cooler ambient air into the system. And because I have already set a fuel correction in place for intake air temperature, the tune will still be optimized.

The Carbon Air Duct is an optional upgrade for all E46 M3 Turbo Kits. However, the Carbon Turbo Inlet Pipe is standard with Stage 3 and Stage 4 and is an optional upgrade for Stage 1-2.5 Turbo Kits.

This HPF1036 (sold seperately) will compliment the HPF carbon air duct and free up a bit of restriction as well.

Here you can see the contours of this pipe as it has to snake around the frame rail, exhaust manifold, A/C lines, coolant reservoir, etc.

That is a fabulous idea! However, there plug-n-play AEM EMS setup wouldn't work with the e36 body harness, etc. I'd have to speak with Chris and see just how much it would cost for him to wire it up so it would work.
I don't know...at that time I might be ready to do my own e46 m3 widebody version with HPF system. :str8pimpi

They will be very soon. We're going to test them out on a few M3's here to determine the power gains for the various stages. Then we'll place our first stocking order and start selling them.

TURBO INLET PIPE COMPARISON
Left pipe is 4" 2x2 Twill Carbon (HPF Stage 3 & 4)
Right pipe is 3" Mandrel 6061 Aluminum (HPF Stage 1, 2, & 2.5)
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh209/quick108/IntakeComparison2.jpg?t=1237592046
These turbo inlet pipes were tested back to back on a Stage 3 E46 M3. As expected, the 4inch pipe freed up some restriction and increased top end power by 25~35hp on the dyno.

The original inlet pipe/coupler was blocked slightly by the engine mount. The shape of the new coupler looks like it may clear the engine mount without restriction, freeing up additional volume?

I believe 3 are on their way to us and will probably be arriving later this week. Once these come in we'll order up a major production run which will come in very quickly now that the tooling is all done. Since we have to modify the tunes for the new intake, they will go on the cars we have in our shop for the people that have paid for them. As it stands, one will go in Greg's M3, one in Robert H's M3 and one in My Tran's. We will retune these cars with the new intakes to develop a stage 1&2 + intake tune, a stage 2.5 + intake tune and a stage 3 and 4 + intake tune. Once we do Greg's M3 we may find we don't need to modify the tune at all for stage 1 & 2, but we won't know until we cross that bridge.
Here are some new pictures...
