Since November 4th has there been a huge increase in firearm prices? Looking around quickly online it doesnt seem so too much. Has anyone noticed anything? I have missed the gun shows so havent gotten a chance to look.
I noticed ammo go up a little bit though.
I am asking because I want to buy an AR-15, but dont have the expendable income to do so now. If I have to ill buy a lower receiver and start building it. Anyone know a good side to get the parts to build one?

Are you kidding?!?!?! Stripped lowers were $125-150 and I have seen them for 375 stripped and 500 complete but just the lower :banghead: Lowers are on 6 month back order...do not let them rip you off.
Check the other Ar threads also.
:hi:
PS: .223 ammo is cheaper than .308 fyi.
For home defense go with low grain like a 45 grain bullet...you want low weight bullet grain high velocity for fragmentation.

Supply and Demand. People are worried that under an Obama administration, guns will disappear. Get them while you still can mentality.
It's a shame people aren't using the money to pay down their debts. However, I guess if they're spending, at least it's stimulating the economy by providing business with money, and the Government with tax revenue.

Are you kidding?? The prices on stripped lowers is self-evident in the price gouging!! Mag prices have also started to climb radically....if you can find them at all!

Guys I wasnt saying that the prices did not increase. I just asked if they did because I havent had a chance to make it to any shows or anything. Because I have not been to any I havent seen the differences.
So if I was in the market for an Ar-15 should I buy now or wait till the prices go back down(hopefully)?
Oh and I always buy .223 though, for my brothers AR. I wouldnt use the AR for home protection thats overkill, the Mossberg or pistols will do it.
Yeah Alex they have gone up a lot. I called the local shop today and for 1200 Wolf 7.68 rounds it cost I think the said $350.00 thats like $60.00 more than it was last time I checked. Some websites have 1120 rounds for $289.00 though.
How much does a S&W M&P AR go for now, anyone have an idea? Just the basic one.

It is true that gun shops have been very busy recently mainly due to Obama and their fear the new administration will make it harder to own guns.
Even in California, I can just about have any firearm I want but some do have limitations. My AR-15 has a bullet button which prevents the magazine from being released and forces me to use a 10 round magazine. But I can still purchase one, but they have gone up in price from a year ago.

I would go ahead and buy a stripped lower since you need the FFL for it it is technically the gun..but you knew that :4ngie:. Try www.gunbroker.com. There are some ok prices on there and also talk to a gun store about doing the FFL for you....should be about $25.00.

Prices on ARs are ridiculous right now man. I know a guy not far from me,check out his site: compass lake engineering. He makes a damn good AR for the same price as a rra or bushmaster 16".
Even gunbroker.com prices are brutal right now. I honestly dont think obama is going to ban assault weps, id wait till end feb for sure.

My friend is a ARMY armorer and orders weapons. Brand new Colt M16s without optical sights cost $385.00!
Kinda crazy when we are spending $800+ for our rifles, though the Military has volume on their side to reduce costs.

Rifles are up, pistols about the same +/- 20%
Ammo is up... a lot.
I just bought a few thousand rounds.
Wipe out walmart every week.

You know, while you're "right". I think you're missing the point. If they take this now, what will they take next? How about if you can only have bolt action rifles, with 2 rds stored internally?

What I mean is that California is one of the most hard-lined states when it comes to gun laws. We are already living in the situation that the rest of the country fears. 10 Day waiting period, 10-round magazine limit, no removable mags on "Assault Rifles", etc.
Even if it comes to that, it isn't that bad is what I mean. Though I doubt in the worst case scenario that states like Texas, Florida, Wyoming, Etc. will even get as strict as California.

Yeah, prices are up for arms and ammo. You are late to the game, but still buy one while you can - at least that is what I'd say. You can still find deals occassionally, but they aren't abundant. I'm glad I got my order in somewhat early.
Although you want an AR, you might consider something cheaper both for the initial purchase as well as ammo supply. If money is short, get an AK and spend the rest of ammo. It may not be your first choice, but it is a great gun. Guess it depends if you are willing to pay a little more to get what you want.

How much would you guess rifles are up, percentage wise?
Yeah I went to Walmart the other day and it was cleaned out. I thought about you. Lol. I swear I need to make one of your ammo runs one day.

Yeah I am late, I just got into guns like 2 years ago, and im 22. I wish I was into them right when I turned 18 :banghead::banghead:
I already have a few guns. My list is
Ak-47
Springfeild 1911
S&W M&P 9c
Baur .25
Mossberg 500
I really want the AR and two other 1911's. Thinking Para's. The AR gets first choice because of demand.
I dont particularly want an AR right now but I know I would want one in the future and i am afraid of prices getting crazy for them.
My brother has an AR and I love it, I can rebuild it with my eyes closed and it looks so sick. IT shoots really nice. I do like the rawness of the AK more though. I've noticed atleast at walmart .223 costs a lot less than the 7.62, unless you buy Wolf or other steel cased rounds. But comparing apples to apples I think the AR rounds are cheaper, no?

Don't get Para 1911's. Between them and Kimber, they give the 1911's a bad name for reliability. While Kimber tends to be hit or miss, Para's have been consistently "miss". Stick with Colt/Springfield for the basics and Wilson Combat/Dan Wesson for the custom. I avoid Nighthawk personally due to some lousy CS as of late.

AR15s are up like 50% or more depending on availability.

Actually WalMart is the cheapest with the Winchester white boxes for 9mm and .45.
My WalMart stocks each morning.
I order .223 in 1000 round cases from the Armory in VA online, but Walmart even has that reasonable (reasonable for today's prices.)

If you do, make sure you get one of the newest ones. I've heard the first gen 1911's were a little finicky. If you're buying a Sig in .45 - why don't you get a P220?? Classic style, reliable and accurate. Its sig's flagship handgun!

This may be a noob question but does Ammo have a shelf life? I mean if it sits in the same spot, no transportation for years.

How much do you pay per 1000 for .223? I would look online right now, but I'm at work and all those sites are blocked. (PLus I don't want to be looking at guns/ammo when I work at a hurting financial services co)
Just curious..

No problem at all. As long as it is dry. A lot of the mil surplus stuff in 7.62x39 is from the 70's & 80's. Shoots w/o a problem. There are plenty more calibers like that too.

I only look at .223 and 7.62 in bulk. That being said, I have no problem feeding my AK the dirty Wolf and steel cased ammo. When my AR arrives I'll be sticking with brass cased only. In general, I find .223 to be more expensive, even more so since I'm using cheap 7.62. Most AK's eat cheap ammo, AR's (from what I understand) are a little more particular and need to be kept cleaner. Another reason not to shoot the cheap stuff.

I only shoot brass cased ammo with my AR. I see people push Wolf through and I cringe. The polymer coating goops up in the barrel and as soon as you put brass in after it gets stuck. Also, they are much dirtier. Brass cased ammo is getting very expensive. Best prices I have seen are about $400 for 1000 rounds.:banghead:

Yeah my AK eats up Wolk, or other steel cased ammo all day. I think I have only shot Brass ammo like one time. We shot Wolf ammo in my brothers AR one time, because the Smith & Wesson is supposed to be able to shoot steel cased ammo, plus it doesnt void the warranty and we are never doing that again. It was so messy.
What I was saying though is if you compare brass to brass the .223 is cheaper, or atleast what I have seen. But since in reality you compare brass to steel then yeah the AK is chaper to shoot.

Well my brother has a P220 I love it.
I plan to buy two 1911's but as like something I will keep forever that are going to be really modded. Not really everday shooting guns. Thats why I wanted one with the rail to help add mods, but I want a relaible gun. I guess Colt or Springfeild is still the number one choice.
