I can offer you $1,100 for it (I'd melt it down, thats for the gold) Pawn shops will probably offer around $900 for it if it is indeed 68 grams of pure 14k gold but they'll resell it.

You got hosed at $1,800 for it (although I guess I'm looking at it from a wholesellers point of view)

t can't be pure and 14k gold. Pure gold is a very rare find.

It is 14k gold period. This is the norm for jewelry. Just a note. :)

I'm in the business, I know pure gold is not 14k. I meant that it is "pure" 14k and not diluted 14k as some companies sell (illegally), or that it is a lower karat or not gold altogether. That is why companies like "cash4gold" (I scam company) requires you to send in your gold and for them to analyze it before they give you any offer.

How do they (cash4gold) expect someone to send in their gold before getting a price quote?

Being in the business...How do these companies scam you? What should someone look out for?

What is gold going for a gram?

They probably dont give you top dollar more like bottom dollar if that. Its like a pawnshop they feed off of peoples need for money.

People in the jewelry business (not pawnshops) don't rip you off, cash4gold is a scam company from a bunch of reviews/blogs I've read online. Their initial offer is EXTREMELY low, if you call and complain or reject their offer (which you only have 5 days to do I think? And it starts from the day they make the analyses so by the time you get their offer check you have no time left, if you call them upset by it then they will tell you they already melted your gold) Some people have been able to get some more for their's after complaining alot or threatening legal action but even then it was only for a bit more (there's a complete website about this)

Don't even THINK about sending in your watches, I've read even worse stories about those. Supposedly they offered some guy a bribe to take down his webpage about them.

Gold prices fluctuate daily so it's hard to say how much per gram but I think a few days ago I offerred the OP $16/g for 14k gold. The thing is I'd have to keep his gold until I have 1 kilo or more before they could melt it down to an amount that a factory would buy. As a wholeseller we don't really purchase gold all that much but a lot of retailers/pawn shops will. They'll usually give you the lowest amount because they then have to sell it to a wholeseller and they want a cut.

Take it to a jeweler and see what they will give you for it. The prices are pretty high right now, I think around $950 (was over $1000 a few days ago). At the $952.28, it should be worth around $1200, would be worth a try to take it to a few places. GL!
