The wait is over, the other wait can begin!

Drove my car to the UK last weekend, and after a 4-country roundtrip using pretty much every type of transportation known to man (car, ferry, train, tube, plane... taxay!) I've dropped off my car at the impressive shop of Perfect Touch.

Outside the shop; some huge intercoolers showing on the bumperless BMW's, a heavily modified Supra, some other japanese cars and a beautiful Lotus Exige. Some work being done on a 650i on one of the lifts. Inside, the 4-wheel dyno hints at what work they typically perform. I've no worries that my car is in good hands with them.

The ESS TS2 will be installed over the next two weeks, as well as the Turner subframe reinforcement.
Will be a tough two weeks but must be worth the wait!

NIce one mate......:pimpin:

I would have gone to Simpsons Motorsports though......they are the official tuners for ESS in the UK:eek:

I know a few twin screw kits that were fitted elsewhere in the UK with some "interesting" results.

Hah, interesting, you're right.
I somehow got it into my head that CA Automoative, who arranged the install to be performed by Perfect Touch, were the UK dealer for ESS. Now I can't remember where I got this information from.
Roy of CA Automotive seemed very knowledgable about the product and they've done more ESS TS installs in the past. I'm sure it'll work out fine.

As long as instructions are followed you will be fine. Good luck with the install!

Well, got it installed, and my god it pulls!

Along with the subframe reinforcement, new RTABs, new FCABs, new diff & subframe bushings, new tranny mounts, it really feels like a new car again!

The twinscrew is fantastic. It's a little twitchy once it's cold but after the warmup cycle the throttle response is exactly as advertised: amazing.

The only thing that was surprising is that those who said you couldn't hear it at low revs with the bonnet closed must have bad hearing.
The sound at partial throttle actually isn't even very nice (almost like a grind), but at WOT even at low revs, it's just fantastic!

The great thing is that you can experience the full benefit of this kit and you won't even need to exceed 4k rpm to get a smile on your face! But if you do.... :woot:

Congratulations - sounds like you have a new car on your hands! The low down pull of the TS is just amazing - happy motoring ;o)

This is exactly what I have been saying all this time. TS is the way to go for a powerfull FUN street car with lots of low end torque.

ENJOY you lucky bastard:bow: If I dont get my EATON supercharger project working one day... ESS TS is where my money is going.

First off, congrats!

I've only ever heard 2 sounds from my TS. There is a mild rattle at idle and a slight whine under load. I greatly reduced the rattle at idle by having ESS bump up my idle speed. The whine is just the sound of the compressor doing its job. I would consult with ESS about any rumbling or grinding noises that you may hear from the compressor if the engine is above 1000 rpm (ie, any time the car is in motion). That doesn't sound normal.

Hello there !

i'm new to the forum and i am pleasantly surprised that there are two other people based in the netherlands that have a ESS TS2 installed. I live in Almere.

I have a 2001 BMW 325ti Compact and i'm also thinking of getting it supercharged with the TS2. I'll first need to save some money.
Can you tell me how much you paid for the kit ? And which car do you have ?

And where are you doing your dyno test ? I can't find much on the net about that...

I am wondering if anyone else has built in the ESS TS2 in a Compact E46, i have only found one old post on the subject and that person never responded that he actually built it in, he was only thinking about it.

It seems that the ESS kit is the way to go for european e46 BMW 325ti; i think that AA does not support the compact. Besides, i figure it's slightly easier, if not cheaper, to go for the ESS ....

Any feedback anyone ?

greetings,

Dub

Thanks for the welcome into the club :)

About the sound, the interesting bit is that I compared it to all those video's on Youtube. While there you never hear anything until about 5000rpm, when you get the low-pitched whine up to 7000rpm, mine actually starts producing a high-pitched whine from about 2000rpm to 5000rpm, when it becomes less audible as it's drowned out by the engine sound.

And about this 'rumbly' sound, this I get from about 1500 to 2000. It becomes less apparent when the car is warmed up. Doesn't sound unhealthy, but just very different from any other TS I've heard on videos. I guess I should post a video of mine to explain what it is.

dammit you beat me to it lol... congratulations!! Can I ask if you went with aftermarket diff/sub frame bushings or did you go OEM?

At idle, as everybody said, there's a slight rattle, at 1500rpm is barely audible and above 2000rpm you start to hear the whine. I can take a small video clip if you want to compare, although mine is the slowest spinning compressor here in the forum

Yeah, mine "rattles" too at idle. I think it may be just the gears in the TS unit meshing together...:dunno: Doesnt' bother me too much; TS unit works as advertised. ...and I love the whine!:pimpin:

Brian - I am getting a little fed up at this point. I was sound asleep and had a dream about this issue about an hour and 1/2 ago. I dont drive the car anymore because I am tired of giving excuses

I am sorry to hear that Stuart. :(

It's not a contest! Just make sure you get yours ;)

The rear diff bushing was Meyle HD. All the others (two front diff + four subframe) were OEM.
I guess these didn't necessarily require replacement, but while we're there... The rear diff one was the culprit.

Yike...this isn't good.

Stuart, I'm very sorry to hear this and it needs to come to an end.

(Running to jump on AJ's back now...)
