how many lbs of boost are you running, how many miles have you put on your transmission since supercharger/turbo has been installed and what are your driving habits...
just curious to see how some of us boosted steptronics are holding up...
thanks in advance :pimpin:

I know this is off-topic, but can you add larger images of your car? I really would like to see your rear bumper and what you have done with it.
Thanks!

2001 E46 325i. 6.5lb psi. ASA Technik Stage 1 s/w. ZF 5HP19 steptronic on Redline D4ATF.
Started out as more street than track. But last 2 years, 95% track/5% street. See my signature.
My stats b4 engine rebuilt last year:
# 58 track events
# 105 track days
# 30k track miles
# 16k street miles.
2 pistons finally failed last year. Heh...I don't think you want to see the pictures...but I posted here (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=566054).
Transmission, ASA SC itself all ok. But please note, I have a EOC, secondary trans cooler as well.
No other internal engine mods.
Please note: my is a M54B25. For your 3.0L, I would strongly recommend that you go with a 5psi to 7psi boost. Keep everything else as is. That means no upgraded cams, no aftermarket headers etc. Else your step might start slipping.
Other bloke who drove a supercharged steptronic as hard as I do, is Shinobi. Search for his handle name.

30K plus milages and had been in the car for 4 plus yrs without any problems. No CEL either, long road trips without any problem. Knock on wood. Just make sure you do your regular pms and check all the connections. My transmission failed at ~49.5K (before the SC install) and was replaced under warranty, no reverse. I was really lucky.

I am running 6.5 psi. Hans from ESS advised against going any higher due to my transmission. I have a set of RD Sport headers that I have been debating of installing. It's collecting dusts in my garage right now. lol
I may just pull the trigger and install them before the summer end and deal with the tranny issue if fail. If that happen, I am going with a 6-sp swap.:str8pimpi
Most people on this boards do not know this but my SC setup came out of MITE46. I bought it from him a while back before he did the SC'ed M3 engine swap. He had the Vortech supercharger rebuilt before he sold it to me. I also replaced a bunch of parts during my install.
BTW, I will be doing some upgrade to my trunk. I will be sending you and Lu some pictures soon.:woot:

I had about 76k miles before I installed the S/C kit... running 7psi.. I think I should go with 6psi down the line.. eventhough AA say its okay to run 7psi as long as you don't push the car hard everytime. I got a light foot so I don't push it too hard either.

give it time, your right foot tends to put on crazy amounts of weight after the SC goes in :4ngie:

once you are used to a certain power level, you almost always want to go UP in power, and would almost certainly hate it if you went down...
if you could live with the car feeling slower, just to preserve longevity of the transmission, id do it, right now im on 5 lbs lol im going up to 6 lbs next week, i think its a safe level, AA recommends 6.5, so 6 should still be on the "cautious" side

For steptronic, Id recommend our ESS Transmission Software, It tightens up the shifts and not only feels better but also helps your transmission last longer, PM me for details and our current specials.
Here is the info from our site.
E46 MS43 330 Steptronic Transmission Software (101-47)
Optimized steptronic transmission software, recommended for both for NA and Supercharged applications. Increases shift firmness under heavy acceleration and increases the transmissions capability to hold power during shifts. The software also converts the operation to work similar to SMG's, meaning it will not upshift in manual mode until you shift. Also increases the shift RPM point under automatic mode to 6600.
When you order this product, you will receive information on how to remove your transmission control unit for shipment to a ESS reprogramming center near you.
Price:
USD 499/EUR 380
Price is different for E46Fanatics Members
Thanks!

I personally have a 2002 530i Automatic with the ESS TS-2 running 7 lbs putting out over 320hp at the crank. Ive had it on there for about 5 or 6 thousand miles and have had the tranny software on there since day one. I must say it is amazing. I highly recommend it.

This thread is starting to worry me.
I will be running the full boost (8 PSI I think?) on the AA kit.
I was quite happy with the power of my car before, as I normally just cruise, but I have been driving an M3 lately, and have gotten very used to the power. I think I can see a trans. failure coming my way :(

Naw just as long as you don't beat on it. Such as strong take offs.. you should be fine. If it worries you just go down to 6-7psi.
