Hi, I would apperciate some advise. I have a '99 323i sedan and i installed an AA supercharger. The tuning was done locally because my ECU was reflashed perviously so it was custom tuned. The problem, the car always goes into limp mode after about a week. In between the car drives fine. The EML light and traction control would go off and the car is on limp mode.

My tuner wanted me to ask Active what the black box included in the kit is for. It was labled HFM regulator in the installation guide. He is thinking that it might be the source of the problem. He wanted to know what it does and if we could do away without it. It is just so disappointing everytime it goes into limp mode during a busy day. I know there is a solution somewhere and i hope that someone could help us out while we try to look at the problem. Thanks

heres a pic of the black box

How come the intake is up near by the engine bay shouldn't it be on the bottom of the car almost... that might be the problem the MAF sensor is too close to the blower causing it to go crazy... any more pics?

Hey,

By the picture and the original post. I can see two major issues with the install.

First will be tuning, we have not tuned the vehicle so we would not be able to necessarily let you know the exact reason for the fault codes/ limp codes.

The second was pointed out by another member. The mass meter is too close to the charger. It needs to be moved away from it as is our instructions. Can be found here: http://activeautowerke.com/pdf/Product18.pdf

Give us a call and we will assist you with getting the correct tune for your car as well as helping you troubleshoot any other issues.

Thanks for the help guys.

I was reading the instructions and it said that the 323, 328 and 328 will not come with a 7" hose but a 2" silicone hose as shown in the picture in the instructions which was from a 330. Maybe that was why the MAF was so close to the supercharger. Could i replace it with a longer silicone hose so i could put it further away? Will it help if i try to sheild it from the engine so it wont heat up?

I'll try to reposition the MAF and CAI as shown. I'll give you a call when things dont work out (again) for me. I'll keep you posted...
Thanks

its prob a resistor for the maf...kinda like the asatronic box. I think alot of the older kits used this to "trick" the maf..

I would just get the proper tune from AA since the kit was made by AA

I bought a longer tube I think its 3 inch? Got it from a local hardware store for about 10 bucks and direct the intake all the way down to the front of the wheel shield. The MAF sensor should be located down there as well.
