View Full Version : HELP: What are my options for tuning?

Ok, I got a major problem. I purchased a used VF engineering Stage 1 kit. I was talking to someone at VF engineering about tuning it and gave him my VIN and he came back and said that they were able to tune it. So after countless hours, fustration, blood and sweat, I get it all installed. I call up VFE this morning to send the ECU off and I double check with the tuning guy about my ECU and he tells me that he can't tune it because I'm running MS45 software vs. the MS43 that they have the capability of tuning.
So now I am stuck with my car down and this kit installed. WTF?
AA made me an offer to tune for $1350 and then $360 for injectors.
VFE told me $600.
Is there anybody else out there that can tune this? How will it run on stock ECU (w/ AA naturally aspirated software)?

dont even think about firing it up with stock software..
your lucky AA is willing to tune it for you..just tighten your belt for a few weeks and $hit the 600 out real slowy..:p
you have no other choice..sorry about hearing your problems with tuners that cant tune..its not like you didnt verify this..but i saw the sales thread ..your still getting a sweet deal..sort of:p
edit:
I re-read your post..1600dollars!!!! Id sell it man..to some1 with a ms43

Thanks dude. I'm seeing red right now I'm so hot. I had to walk out of work. But yeah $600 would have been easy to cough up, $1700 hurts. That's not to far for what I paid for the kit.

On a side note the guy from VFE that I spoke to today said I can drive it on a stock ECU but not to take it past 4500 rpms

VFE:
 for fvcking up after checking vin
 for not having developed MS45 software
 for running like ass without wide open throttle
 for 4,500rpm
 for diesel comparisions
I'm so sorry about what happened to you... i don't know why, but i feel horrible for you for having troubles with the same chassis designation as mine. I hate to see e46nonMers in such pain.
you will be running so lean on open throttle, you can't but be very easy on the throttle. Unless you tune, the car will be much faster NA than FI without a tune, redlining at 4500.
Ask them to reflash for you with a 4,500 redline, so you don't blow your shitup accidentally. I just want to know what they'd say.

I'm not trying to call them out, I have no one to blame but myself. I should have waited I guess. I'm gonna go home and start pulling all this **** off and try to convert everything back. That new AA 325 upgraded kit looks very tempting, I just wish it was at a better price :(

So you gave VF your VIN and they said they can tune it, so you give them you ECU and then they tell you they cant tune it. isnt that their fault? Therefore, they should pay for the mistake...not you. at VF....or am I a noob thinking that VF and VFE are the same thing? (i think its the latter...:-l)

Wait wait, are you telling us before you installed the kit you called gave them your vin and they confirmed they have the tune for it, then you installed the kit and went to send them the ecu and they went "just kidding we don't that will be $600 to tune it"?
Sounds like the worst and most illegal form of bait and switch to me.

I think it's more along the lines of them saying they can tune it for $600, so he installed it, and then found out that they can't tune it all, even for the $600.
Sorry to hear that OP.. Are they not willing to work with you at all?

That's he thing. There aren't any options for me. They said call back in a few weeks to see if GIAC releases the software for the ms45 but they have been "under development" for years and that's not a chance i'm willing to take. This is my daily driver. I wish they could help but...

So your the one that bought the VF kit stage 1 ...I almost bought it. The price he was selling it did not cover tuning. VF wanted 1000$ at the begining and he was able to deal with them down to 600$ and I tough that was awesome of VF for doing that to help a member out.
Did you tell them you had a MS45 DME? Because I knew the software they had was for a MS43 just like mine on my 330i....
Sorry to hear about all this...
I would be willing to pick it up from you for a good price and deal with VF to tune my MS43. Let me know..

The guy I talked to at VF this morning told me $600 for a reflash was standard pricing. Then he wanted another $150 to wipe the AA software off that I am currently running.
As for the kit, I'm just gonna throw it on eBay. Too many people are interested. I'll let you know, thanks.

Alright, got everything uninstalled about 30 minutes ago. It's amazing how it take 8-16 hours to put this in but 4 to take out, lol.

i just hope there is better outcome for you and the kit. Ive had nothing but best quality deal for my 2nd hand blower from ESS(edit:shameless plug), They got involved in my tuning to checking out/and helping their already sold kits on the threads, and i was not the original buyer.. I really hate to see you get so close and and still not be able to enjoy after the work and money envolved, especially the pain-in-the-arse now work part. I hope you drank a gang load of beer &^**(your wife and woke up really late to deal with this *(^&*%^
good luck on everything, and dont give up on the boost!

Correct. I had been speaking with Nick for a few weeks. I had asked that he get his VIN to confirm so that I can use RealOEM.com to confirm his ECU version. It came up as a MS43 ECU. Because this seemed to good to be true, I then asked Nick to send me some pictures of the stickers on his ECU to confirm it to be MS43 or MS45 before we wasted his time.
So on Saturday Nick sends me a PM to show a nice sticker from the ECU, unfortunately not the sticker showing MS45.

I am sorry to say that we do not yet have the MS45 software available, however we did not advise Nick to install the kit. Rather I asked for information to help us both determine whether or not this kit would work out.
Sorry for the trouble Nick. I hope all works out OK for you.
Thanks!

Oh that has to suck... You get excited about something and it falls through!
I went through that, although a different scenario still concerned with a SC.
I hope you get this all sorted out, and are happy with which ever route you decide to go down with the car now :)
