View Full Version : HPF Turbo Kit - Secret Components Revealed

Up until now I have neglected posting detailed pictures of several of the components of our turbo systems as there was still some potential competition that could have used some of our development efforts against us. Now that this possibility appears to be behind us, and we have a large customer base using our turbo systems, I updated our site to include some amazing photos that Geoff took the past couple weeks. I also updated our web-site to clearly lay out which stages get which components on the following link...

http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/partdetails/HorsepowerFreaks/Turbos/Turbo_Kits/E46_M3/11037

The first pictures you may have seen before as they were taken quite awhile ago (when we first released stage 1). As you scroll down the page you will see parts that are included with the higher end stages.

Max Power - (race + meth)

Stage 1 - 600rwhp
Stage 2 - 630rwhp
Stage 2.5 - 667rwhp
Stage 3 - 780rwhp
Stage 4 - 920rwhp

Standard Components

Here are the standard components. These come with every stage. We designed our turbo systems to re-use many of the parts so that even the stage 1 kits could take advantage of parts that could flow enough for stage 4.

Stage 1, 2 and 2.5

All HPF Stage 1 through 2.5 turbo systems include the following parts. These parts are optimally designed for the power level that stage 1 through 2.5 have to offer.

Also we need a rear strut bar too.

The hardware looks great Chris!!

Edit:

How are the NGK R plugs holding up, they are iridium correct?, Heat Range? I have Iridium in mine now and have 2 sets of NGK Copper plugs to swap in, they are 1 heat range colder than factory and waiting to see how they hold up.

its so sick, some one could prob write a fictional book about espionage by russians the trade in money briefcases with the software designer in hotel lobby with decrypted download on a keychain for mass commi made housings and brackets ..etc

can i get a non-sponsorship related comment on the usage of "certain" coils over "certain" power levels chris?okay im joking.

love the atipod key thats dope

wow I hope youre in the next forza3!

Thanks. Those NGK plugs are holding up well. Yes they are irridium. They are the most expensive spark plugs I have ever purchased. At the higher power levels the ceramic insulator center on the Denso's were coming loose. We decided to switch to these special plugs for our stage 2.5, 3 and 4 turbo systems and as you can tell by looking at them that the ceramic insulator center is tucked up inside the plug itself and is nearly non-existant. They are already gapped to the correct specifications for high boost, and they are definitely the ticket to the higher power levels in the S54 engine. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to let anyone know the part number on these. I don't even know if anyone would buy them because they're so damn expensive. But in order to make 1022rwhp, they are essential.

Chris.

ACE (my shop) has an account, can you drop me a PM w/ price and availability? We are taking the M3 to the dyno on Monday - so the fun begins!

We are supposed to have an RHD on the way to us. Once it arrives we can dial in the RHD version. If it does arrive on schedule (which is in 3 weeks), we still have the development time to add to that before we have a production RHD version ready. We will do the RHD at some point, the question is just when will we get an RHD M3 to use for testing.

Chris I've been meaning to ask you. Why the hell is (and wtf is it) stage 1.7 and why is it the same price as 2.5

SPDu4ea
07-26-2009, 02:47 PM
Slightly off-topic, but have you looked at incorporating the gen2 aem ems into your kits? Supposed to have better drive-by-wire support, no more wastefire (easier on stock coils?), more datalogging, etc...

Chris I've been meaning to ask you. Why the hell is (and wtf is it) stage 1.7 and why is it the same price as 2.5

1.7 is a stage one kit (no methanol) with a HIGH compression built motor.

2.5 is a stage two kit with a LOW compression built motor

so its the same price since they are both built motors, they are jus built with a different type of components.

Chris I know this is a slightly outdated thread, but I remember before seeing you using the CBR 600 coils and the AEM twin fire system for stage 4? This has the okada coils still listed for stage 4? Was there some breakthrough elsewhere that allowed these coils to work now?

mtran850
11-05-2009, 06:27 PM
CBR 600 coils and th AEM twin fire system did not work out the way HPF wanted it too, they have found a new race spark plug to work with the Okada coils and have solve the issue of miss firing at higher power level (1022 rwhp with no ignition issue).

Exactly. We couldn't get the AEM twin fire to work in the car.
