So I am trying to make more time to get out to the track. I have done it a few times in the past and always had a blast, just never had time to do it on a regular basis. I have been thinking about buying a track car (maybe an E36 M3), BUT today I tracked the HPF M3 and it was a BLAST! I was only able to get one session in due to weather, however, the car performed flawlessly during that session... I am now thinking instead of a track car that I will do some more mods to the M3 to better track prep it and use it.. My concern is long term with the turbo... I only plan on running on pump mode (6-7psi)... So I am looking to see if anyone tracks their HPF M3 (I am talking at least once a month) and if so how is it holding up, and what are the weak spots. Also for you guys with any type of FI on E46 M3's, what are the weaknesses if tracking?
Thanks!
Evan

150% get your subframe reinforced.

What mods do you currently have?

Had the HPF Subframe Reinforcement kit installed when the turbo went on :)

I have:
-HPF Stage 2
-HPF Subframe
-HPF Clutch
-KW V2 Coils
-TMS Sways
-Straight Pipe Exhaust
-Vorsteiner GTR Hood (Some cooling)
-Nitto NT05 Tires (Though I may switch to 18's and NT01's in the future)

I think thats about it performance-wise...

-Ditch the KW's and go with something more aggressive like GC, TCK, Moton, or AST along with some camber plates. This way you can swap to more aggressive springs for race day, and back to softer springs for daily driving. That's only if the aggressive springs bother you enough for daily... I'm sure you can sell them on the forum and find a used kit and not lose much $
-Upgrade your RTAB's
-UUC Red Tranny mounts
-Motorsport Thermostat
-High end electric fan
-BBK
-Race Seats and harness'

If you ever have overheating issues with the above, upgrade oil cooler and radiator.

Thanks for the info!

I put up a thread in the past asking to swap the KW's for TC's or GC's, but no resonses, guess I would have to sell outright and find others...

Rtab's and Tranny Mounts I will get to for sure

Motorsport Thermostat I will pick up from Turner for sure before the next event. The electric fan I will have to look into, any suggestions?

For brakes, I was quite happy with the ZCP brakes and honestly am not looking to spend the money for a BBK right now, so I will be giong SS lines, new pads and fluid.

For seats, I am looking at options right now, but am not going to install a harness bar as this car is my daily driver and I do use the back seats occasionally.
Thanks,
Evan

Honestly I'd get something more, um, disposable. At some point you're going to hit something large and immovable and it's a whole lot easier to shake that off in a $5k E30 325is with a rollcage and proper seats than an HPF M3 which you have a sizable investment in...

i just upgraded to 55 degree T-Stat, 2 bottles of water wetter, and a spal 16" elec fan in replacement of my fan clutch. maybe an oil cooler in the near future, but what ive been told, not really needed.

my current setup is:
GC coilovers with 525 front and 550 back
ss brake lines with motul brake fluid and zcp setup.

i do autox once a month and an occasional track course nearby.

Are you guys sure these fans you're putting in are pulling more air than the factory clutched fan? Everything I've read on E36's shows the clutched fan to work better, I'd think it would be the same for the E46 (S54 in general).

Maybe I'm wrong on the E46, but the E36 turbo guys are converting back to mechanical fans.

well the one i got pulls 2360cfm's and is much larger than the fan clutch, which means it covers more area to cool. i run alot cooler than when i had my clutch fan. with the clutch fan my needle would go fast the middle mark, and now its either below or right at middle!

The real concern is, what are your temps at idle like after 10 minutes of hard driving. Drive the car really hard, then leave it idling for 10 minutes and then look at oil/coolant temps (use accurate gauges or an OBDII scan tool to get them).
