Well my buddy with the Ford GT (long time rivalry) recently upgraded his s/c to the new Whipple and picked up a little over 100 whp. Insane torque. :ben:
Looks like I will be getting Stage 3 soon.

This is his latest dyno. 666 max torque, evil.

STD Smoothing: 0 and the torque curve is almost flat from 3000 RPM :yikes:
Perfect tuning right there.

Meh.. I kind of hope you're kidding about the stage 3. As you know from your 60-130 time the stage 3 isn't going to be much faster in the low end, but at 100+ it will be.. and how often do you start at 100?
If you want the stage 3 for you.. get it. If you're buying it to "stay in the game" so to speak, an M3 is never going to put down power better than a GT, so I would stick with the 2.5.

You are probably right. F*** the Ford GT. I am happy to own the #1 60-130 time for any BMW. I should wait to lose the title b4 upgrading. :)

Hell no! Upgrade now and beat your own record. Plus we want to see you break 200MPH.

Or, instead of possibly wasting money for a slower car, he could sit on it until somebody beats him. He could legitimately have the fastest 60-130 setup for stage 2, 2.5, 3, 4, you name it. Tire spinning is fun, but being faster is more fun.

People mention the 60-130 time, but really no one has run it with a stage 3.....I know i didnt as i didnt get my vbox while on leave. I believe Scott with stage 3 / hpf traction boost control would beat his own 60-130time. Although I do believe those 19s arent going to work with the stage 3.............

If it's torque you are after, have you considered nitrous?

i hear you get some pretty good lag from that bigger trubo on the stage 3. just hear say.. 2.5 is good bro extreamly fast. puttin more hp like the 3 and 4 kit is alot for thease little cars not sure how long it would last. that dude with the ford has a supercar. we dont. might have to let that one go.

Damn that's a nice dyno! Prob is if you go stage 3, it will prob be time to do some serious upgrades in the traction dept.

why stage 3 man?? go straight for stage 4 while your at it. shoot, if i was a baller like you, i be all over stage 4. but anyway, seriously, anything over stage 2.5 is just not as fun anymore in my opinion. no traction, etc. your stage 2.5 is the best i think. its the sweet spot. stick with it. you may not be the fastest, but your ride is FAST and FUN! only very few will beat you at stage 2.5. my 2 cents..

Stage 3 should be a good race from a roll, though I think the Ford GT would still have the advantage (mid engined+bigger tires). Both cars should put down 650-780rwhp through their powerband.
I still think stage 2.5 is the best all-around option. If you were seriously considering upgrading I'd just jump to stage 4. Presumably you could keep your current turbo and have HPF make a custom map for the new stage 4 fuel/ic/exhaust on a 2nd ems. Then you could switch out the turbo/ems when you wanted to do the occasional monster HP run -- but keep it stage 2.5 for the rest of the time.

Full 4" exhaust, larger intercooler, and probably a few other goodies.

I think Stage 3 involves an upgraded fuel system, larger injectors, bigger exhaust and bigger turbo. I'm pretty sure the larger intercooler is for Stage 4 but it may be an option. I agree it's going to be hard to put any more power down with 19's and street tires. I'm definitely going to need some smaller wheels and very sticky tires to have a chance against the GT.

Stage 3 also comes with the carbon fiber intake....not sure if you are a stage 2 clutch already but if not may want to pass that one and just get the stage 2+++ or whatever it is that is needed for stage 4 incase you go up to that level eventually. Oh and 3 has the hpf traction/boost control.
Sleepersown
07-13-2009, 10:48 AM
EDIT: I TOTALLY forgot about hpf's traction control. I'd still say keep the 2.5 for the most part because I love WHERE the power is at. I think that beast is a true fun ass street car. After thinking about it more, i'd have to drive the stage 3 around for like a few hrs to see if it's worth the upgrade.

You're hilarious Derek!!
The larger FMIC is designed for stage 4, but could be used on stage 3. The front bumper support is cut to fit the larger FMIC.
Bring it on Scott!!! Go stage 4!!!
Chris.

Just get Stage 6...;) Given how the HPF M3s are, they remind me of the MKIV Supra, highway beasts that are hard to hook from a dig but are absolutely evil on the roll once you can hook, when Chris puts an GT47-80mm just get that and call it a day, the engineering HPF did for the M3 is on par to the stages of evolution of Single turbo Supras throughout the years...I see Chris kept a winning formula...keep going bigger and bigger and bigger in terms of turbo size. ;) I see the HPF E46 M3 as a BMW version of a single turbo Supra except with a better interior and with much newer model years.
