Hey guys I know there is a lot of new members to the HPF club, just trying to see who has which transmission.
I myself am a Stage 3, 6MT.

I have smg and would not want a 6mt. Having said that the 6mt does shift better.

When you say it does shift better, why is that? I thought generally the SMG was suppose to be technically "faster" Unless you mean there is some slight bumping with the SMG?

a traditional 6 speed shifts "better" or "smoother" perhaps because you(plural) shift it. the SMG's engagement/disengagement with this type of clutch can be a bit on the abrupt side at times. . .not sure if that's the right word but others can chime in.
my car is a stage 2.5 with SMG though, and i wouldnt trade it for a 6 speed as my car is a daily. no mis-shifts with 6XXrwhp is the ultimate daily/highway monster.

exactly. plus, I just like to have the "feel" of a direct connection to the gearbox. not hatin' the SMG, but just not my style of driving. :)

I raced Chris's stage 4 and Mtran850 stage 4. Mtran's car was much faster shifting. When I raced Chris's car I could gain a tiny bit when he would shift, Mtran's car I never gained an inch:bawling:

Stage 2 vert with 6mt...and I wish it was SMG. When I go 2.5 this winter, I will buy an extremelly clean SMG vert and swap everything over.

stg 2 and i cannot even explain how i love the way smg downshifts on its own...the sound is pure sex with my AP exhaust. racing is awesome when taking turns and not having to worry about shifting with all that hosepower.

paddle shifters and being able to keep both hands on the steering wheel at 100mph FTW

i agree on the having both hands on the wheel. my preference i would rather have manual trans. the smg in my car is clunky and i have to run it in manual shift mode for it to not be really jerky with the new clutch. the auto mode is horrible honestly. i also think my clutch is starting to slip. its sliped twice now right in the middle of a race. but it works fine the next time???? car has been cutting out in race gas mode also while racing???

Doing the install myself...i have a corner in my shop that has a hoist and a pile load of parts i've been collecting for the past two or so years :loco: while she has been in hibernation due to a nasty rear floor failure and strut tower cracks. Alot of TLC is going into her this time around. We should get together at some point :hi:

Thanks guys, I see a lot of videos of HPFs but most (if not all) the videos are SMG. Good to see a few other 6MTs out there.

I have a 6MT. :) I do however REALLY like how the SMG shifts. I try to find the time to test drive all of the cars before they leave here. I haven't done it in awhile however. But if I wanted to be king of the street race, I would choose the SMG for sure. For road racing I'd probably prefer the 6MT but the SMG might actually be quicker.

Those were my thoughts but I just couldnt see myself buying an SMG when a 6 speed is so MUCH more fun to me. Plus I would like to improve my driving overall so why not make it just a bit more difficult :craig:

true. plus, if you ever drive another race car, it most likely will not have the SMG type of tranny. I actually practice my 3 foot driving in every vehicle that I drive. kind of hard to practice that with the SMG. :shhh:
