Ive seen a million population polls, and ive seen a million "which do you like better" but im curious how many people have each... percentage wise... so here's my poll...

::edit i know SMG is technically manual... but you can still put it in drive, and it doesnt have a clutch pedal...

i prefer stick, but my "significant other" does not. and doesnt want to learn. Besides ive been riding crotch rockets for the last ten years, so i got a car to be lazy anyways. and cars as fun as they are will never accelerate like a 1000cc sportbike.

This might have been a good poll for the poll forums. It's come up a few times before. At any rate, I like to row my own gears.

Auto here, wish I had manual..... I guess if I had a manual in the mornings when I'm sitting in traffic (going up hill which I do everyday) I'd be thinking... wish I had an automatic...

Grass is always greener on the other side...

ok.... here is a twist on the pole.

For those of you who answer manual, how many of your choose it to also prevent your significant other/spouse from driving the car?

I know I did....

Dude SMG should be in it's own category. It's not an auto tranny, it's a true manny tranny with a computer controlled clutch...:tsk: :tsk:

my first post explained my logic in putting the SMG with the autos... you CAN put the car in drive and not shift at all... you also DONT have a clutch pedal... so i know TECHNICALLY its a manual tranny... you dont have to know how to drive a manual to know how do drive it... you cant mis shift and you cant stall it...

Manual- and the only time i regret it is when i'm eating in my car, have women calling me on the cell phone, or when i'm getting road head.

So basically, I never regret it.

Manual is tha shiiiizzzattt cuz hardly anyone can drive my car, and I enjoy it, which is much more important

you can still talk on the phone and eat, but kind of dangerous, haha.

I dont' eat in my car, and nobody calls me (or gives me road head) if you hadn't figured that out from my previous post....lol.. Sometimes though, when i call people, i drive but it's so dangerous... if the road is slanted (lots of mountain roads up here) i'm screwed.

smg might be swaying it - they'd prob be manual drivers if there was no such thing as SMG

FYI, you can stall an SMG!
Just because it has no clutch pedal does not mean that it is easy to drive... it takes some getting used to!

Man, there's nothing like a manual when driving. I'm having to drive autos right now while my car is in the shop and it's torture!! I wanna push in that clutch, but all I get is a empty space....

I can't beleive how close it is... I figured surely with all the enthusiasts here there would be a bias towards manual. (I guess that shows you what I know ie. nothing) My reasons for choosing a manual or two-fold. One is that I hate automatics, I feel entirely out of touch with the car when I'm driving an auto. My search for my 328i (or 528i/540i) excluded automatics. And two is that they are unreliable, especially BMW units.

Thanks,
Adam

yeah but when you drive your manual tranny on the 405 in stop and go traffic for an hour or two, you'd wish you were auto too.

Manual. I almost got a step for traffic but you can't enjoy your car as much with an auto although step is still pretty fun. Once I do the cdv delete the manual will be perfect.

Jon- I'm with ya on not driving while on the phone, so dangerous. Slanted roads can be annoying enough without a phone to distract you.

I realize that it's dangerous, but I'll say it anyway. One could conceivably drive a manual while on the phone. I know a person that holds the phone with his right hand, shifts with his left and just lets the steering wheel continue its course. One could also hold the phone with the left hand, left elbow on the steering wheel while shifting, and shifting with the right.

Disclaimer: In no way do I condone this behavior.

Every car before my 330 was a manual but the BMW is an automatic just because I couldn't find a manual with the features I wanted. I kinda like it though, as far as autos go.

C'mon...Manual of course.

plus I agree with warmasice, manual seems to be the prefered option in europe.
