Trojan Horse Virus?

How do i get rid of this. My Norton Virus detector detected it but was unable to repair the file:dunno:

It's probably an .exe related virus, that's why Norton was unable to clean it. Go on the norton website, and see if there is a specified cleaner for that trojan. Every once in awhile, they will post cleaners for specified "new" viruses that show up. Back when the bear.exe (?) trojan was causing issues, they had a cleaner for that.

Worse case scenario.....reformat! Sucks, but it may have to be done.

Find out what the virus is called, and go to google, and type it in. Something should come up telling you a cleaner, or how to do it yourself. Trojans are not that hard to get rid of, you mostly need to find out if it is starting up itself, if it is starting from another program, or if it is embedded in a startup system program (worst case). You never cease to amaze me with your all around knowledge. :pimpin: Here is a hoax that plays off the virus you just mentioned. An FYI for all the E46ers.

The bear virus was a hoax that, like the SULFNBK.EXE Warning hoax, tries to persuade you to delete a legitimate Windows file from your computer. The file that the hoax refers to, Jdbgmgr.exe, is a Java Debugger Manager. It is a Microsoft file that is installed when you install Windows.

NOTE: Recent version of this hoax take advantage of the recent outbreak of the W32.bugbear@mm worm, and the fact that the Jdbgmgr.exe file that is mentioned in the hoax has a bear icon. The actual W32.bugbear@mm worm file is an .exe file and does not have a bear icon.

The Windows Jdbgmgr.exe file has a teddy bear icon as described in the hoax:

CAUTION: Jdbgmgr.exe, like any file, can become infected by a virus. One virus in particular, W32.Efortune.31384@mm, targets this file. Norton AntiVirus has provided protection against W32.Efortune.31384@mm since May 11, 2001.


NOTE: If you have already deleted the Jdbgmgr.exe file, some Java applets may not run correctly. This is not a critical system file. The file version may vary with your operating system and version of Internet Explorer.

How to restore the Jdbgmgr.exe file
If you have deleted this file, restoration is optional. However, without it, some Java applets may not run correctly. This is not a critical system file.

If you have some type of virus scan software (i.e., Norton Anti-Virus) the virus will automatically be quarantined by the software. When there is no fix for a "virus" it must remain in quarantine until a software company finds a cure and at that point it will be fixed. Do periodic updates to your virus software "live update" and make sure you get all new virus definition updates. Once a virus is in quarantine you are safe. Good luck.

I think you should give it a shot because you are already so intuned to using a PC both at home and work. You can only gain from the experience, all you have to lose is money which is monetary.
