Haven't posted new updated pics in a while so check this out!

Wanted to share some of my latest ICE upgrades as far as the headunit is concerned. So sick of all the flip-out TV's on the market since on an E46, it really is not practical due to the vents being blocked and also those damn motors burning out.

First off, let me say a project like this one could not have been done without a lot of technical advice from others. I would like to thank Rich (SRSTC) for his insight, Ron/Craig at StreetEffectz for their advice and knowledge, Ernie at Sound Innovations for the actual fiberglass work and George/Elizabeth at Creative Kustoms in San Jose for the final sanding/paint work on this work of art!

This is truly a project beyond my scope of fiberglass work and these guys all helped greatly in getting the final product to work since the 8" Pioneer TV was not originally meant for this type of use so we had to match various parts/cables together. I did manage to do all the wiring (and oh boy was there a lot of wiring involved!) to get everything working. Now I finally have a true Dolby Digital 5.1 system in my ride and I get to enjoy it with the full A/C vents working too...hehe

The system can be controlled in 3 ways: steering wheel controls, Pioneer silver remote custom mounted in center console, or individual passenger remote control. All the DVD/CD's are in the trunk utilizing 2 changers.

The final product turned out awesome and the sound is pure realism!

enjoy the pics,
rick

we're not worthy!

Awesome work man, any chance I can talk you into making another one? Seriously, this is exactly the way to go in this car--totally with you on the disadvantages of the flip-outs.

thansk,
jason

I have the same screen and I get the green tint too. I only get it when I switch sources and leave it on a different source for a while. When I come back to the pioneer main screen it's all green. All I do it turn it off and back on and it clears right up.

BTW, your setup looks really sweet ******, and very familiar too. :pimpin: :D

Yeah, that whole green thing is an internal problem from pioneer. None of you guys are doing anything wrong. I'm actually waiting on a fix for it.

Nice work Rick! Looks great :)

I have the 6.5" screen from pioneer with the 9000 series brain and I dont have any of those problems you guys are talking about. Has anyone tried to contact pioneer? This might be a given, but have you tried to reboot - reset the lcd brain?

here is a pic of mine:

where did you get the holder for your remote?

Very nice screen!! This is the best way!
What parts did you use for this configuration, and how connected? Screen, remote, dvd, etc. Can you also control radio?

And like Jason:

z400: Yes that is in San Ramon...I'm more in Fremont area but was up there visiting some buddies so snapped those pics.

crispvx: The reason you don't have that problem is because the 6.5" screen is designed to be used with that power supply.

The setup we 8" owners have to use is to use an 8" TV BUT with a 6.5" brain to get the on screen graphics to function. I think since the power supply was only designed for a 6.5" screen, it lacks the power output to properly run the 8" unit.

I did call Pioneer tech and they don't know how to fix it since they don't recommend using these two components together like how we are.

I'll try to get a remote bracket pic this weekend. I custom built the L-shaped bracket out of ABS, epoxy, and bondo to create a very sturdy mounting surface since I didn't want the remote to flex. That is a Pioneer Master remote I had to buy separately.

rick

Wait wait wait.....you're using the 6.5" brain???? No need to do that at all....you just need the Pioneer CD30RGB cable to connect between the master control unit, and the brain that comes with the 8" screen.

Hmmm, Ron, where can I get such a cable to test it your way?

Since Pioneer does not mark their cables with a part number, I have no way of telling what cable is the CD30RGB!!! argh...

You can order it right off the website, and that's the EXACT model # of it, CD30RGB

Oh man these are BEAUTIFUL.

******, crispvx, did you guys custom-make the housing unit for your LCD's so it'd fit onto the dashboard?

Are either of you using the AVIC-80DVD for nav?

Man that's beautiful.....I'd love to get that done but I'm gonna have to cheap out and mount the LCD down near the cig lighter.

Did you need to purchase a new climate control unit or does the standard one simply fit on the accessory shelf without any mods?
