    Hi, Red,

I've been chasing some trouble w/ my steering. The biggest problem I have has been termed as "bump steer" where the steering tracks straight in flat road, but when changes direction when hit bumps and or uneven roads. I found your description on one of the thread (below) about caster adjustment. I noticed that on my alignment report (from Goodyear service center) is everything looks perfectly normal except for the caster measurement that is out of spec, but the report says there's no way to adjust it. Is there a way to adjust the caster on an e46 (01 330i Sport Pkg)? Could that be the source of uneven steering? Could it be that my strut mounts are worn and that's why the caster is out of spec?

    Thanks!

"The front camber doesn't have adjustments in it, unless you knock out the retaining stub at the top of the tower. The rear should have adjustment on the camber. Unless your slammed, there should be enough adjustment there not to require adjustable arms.

I would really check your bushings and your tie rods/steering rack. I think that would be the main culprit to the uneasy steering and shake during braking.

I would also increase the caster. It will give the car a more firmer feeling and track better. It won't drift off as much and road ruts and undulations won't affect you as much."
