I'm sorry, but an AWD M? I'm not seeing it. I'm impressed you could do it, but sort of disappointed that someone would want to. For what it cost, he could have bought an F150 for driving in the snow...and he probably won't take the M out in the snow anyway.
Why would you want to lose an M by adding AWD to it? Is it just me thinking, 'what was owner thinking'?
I like keeping things real, you know guys! :lmao: I am impressed that Impressive did it, as I said; but in my mind, it's taking the M that was there before and knocking it down a few notches is all.
It's got AWD now, but lost its throttle steering. I've heard of the Audi Quattro and driven them too...too stable for my tastes. I understand there might be a few days where having AWD would make a difference getting to work on a snowy day, but the rest of the time, that car has lost its raison d'etre!
If I owned a shop and someone wanted to do this, I think I'd tell them to take their money, buy 100 lbs. of sand for the trunk, and attend a winter driving school! That said, if the owner was in a place that gets a lot of snow and little plowing, then I'd understand the sacrifice he made.
Finally, my objection to this is relatively mild. I'd object far more if someone wanted to put the wrong oil in their motor!
I don't think that this was done in mind for winter driving. It was done for the sake of being done. Honestly I would like to see a stage 4 HPF installed on that beast and see how quick the quarter mile would be. With the AWD traction would be less of an issue.
The Trany will be fried by the M3 engine just a matter of time , happened to me when i transferd an auto from a 320i to my 328i . but if its a manual , i realy dont know
Doug.... Give it up. It's a cool project. Because they can is a good enough reason for a cool project (especially because they can correctly). Snow has nothing to do with it. AWD is a huge traction and handling advantage. In motorsports AWD cars are given a horrible weight disadvantage because of their inherent traction advantage.
If it's simply an S54 swap, cool, but so what? It's been done. OK, this is AWD, and that's cool, but hard to get excited if other M3 upgrades have not been done. Love to know more details.
This is FACT. Every sanctioning body from the FIA to the ACO to IMSA have saddled AWD with significant weight disadvantage because of the inherent traction and handling advantages of AWD. In fact, AWD is essentially banned from most road course racing because of the advantages. Even with the ridiculous amounts of weight added to AWD cars, when the weather turns foul, the AWD cars are at a whole other level, usually by an order of magnitude. Search on the IMSA Audi AWD cars. O...M...G... I was at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course some 20 years ago (approx) when in the rain, the Audis, despite a HUGE weight disadvantage, just ran away from the field and disappeared.

That video is meaningless. With every car it matters more how the suspension of the particular car is set up and how it is actually driven. In the case of an AWD car, it also matters how the drivetrain is set up with diff splits and percentage of LSD lock-up.
I've driven all three types of car on a race track and actually raced RWD and FWD. I'll bet you didn't know you can actually set a FWD car to be VERY fast and set up to steer with the throttle. The cool thing about a well set up FWD car is that when you control the rear end with the throttle, you actually hammer the throttle down to keep the rear end in check. Yep, you're accelerating.
