quick HID question

1 Attachment(s)
I am installing an HID kit from DDM. The OE igniter that is inside the headlight stays in? or is taken out all together. I cant find any info on this. Basically asking for this one plug in the picture.

Mango 12-17-2013 12:22 PM

That all goes in the trash.

tylermaslanik 12-17-2013 12:33 PM

CSP 12-17-2013 12:46 PM

no. dont install that on your car. you mention OE igniter in your post meaning you used to have OE xenon. why are you installing junk in place of gold?

CSP 12-17-2013 01:59 PM

Mango - out of curiosity do you replace the bolts for your battery terminals every time you need to disconnect your battery?

No, but if I did, I wouldn't replace them with bolts from a $15 ikea table.

tylermaslanik 12-17-2013 02:05 PM

Its for a friends car not mine. He just wanted help cause he has no clue. But now I feel like I have no clue lol. He isnt changing his mind about having them so I am just trying to help get them installed

Mango asked a good question though. Why would you switch out the BMW system for DDM? At least it appears you're putting this in a projector fixture though. If you're putting this in halogen reflector bowls, I hope you hit a deer tomorrow.

And If i (mango) said that... i'd be condescending... rude etc etc etc.

Even if in a projector "fixture" it's still stupid. I can write a long long detailed thread on why this is stupid. i dont even know where to begin. it would have chapters, subchapters, and probably verses

WDE46 12-17-2013 02:41 PM

No, it's fine because putting those in halogen bowls is going to get someone else in a wreck. They're blinding. Best he wrecks his car before blinding someone.

CSP 12-17-2013 02:43 PM

Disagree. I think it'd be as funny as when he said it. But we don't know about why he's installing it. Maybe a ballast or igniter is out or he's going with higher wattage. When I was in college I had a set of DDM HID's on my car for a year and they were perfectly fine. Simply using DDM ballasts doesn't make him the devil.

edit: for instance, I chuckled at your ikea table reply.

I could rip apart your post so many different ways in so many different directions from so many different angles.

Better if I just say "you can't afford this car"

that sums it up best.

dangerous. illegal. stupid

If you want to help, you should give him good advice.
DDM kits are for people who don't have OEM xenons.
If he already has BMW xenons, all he needs is a pair of D2S bulbs, not the entire ballast and sh1t.

Me or him?

What's illegal or dangerous about it? His are going into a projector housing. Mine were in a projector housing on an e34. Not dangerous OR illegal.

Stupid? Sure. I was in college and couldn't drop $150 on an HID set, $45 was much more reasonable. They're not the greatest quality but I had no issues and I knew that it wasn't a morimoto ballast.

If you're saying I can't afford an e46, you're being incredibly presumptuous and overall a douchebag. That sums it up best.
