Your racecar

I've been thinking a lot about owning a car just for the track in a couple years after I get my own house ect...

right now Im thinking in a couple years of getting an e36 M3 with an AA turbo, a BBK, new wheels tires ect...rollbars and gutting it for the track ~30,000 after everything

anyone already have one or have some ideas for one they want to put together in the furture?

I'm really looking Forward to having strictly a project car

russ330 03-22-2004 05:34 PM

I'd love to do something similar at one point. I'd use to four door however, since it's got a stiffer chasiss, and instead of an AA turbo, I'd get the Euro spec Evo M3 engine. 321 hp.

Fisch330ciTopasBlau 03-22-2004 05:42 PM

I plan to turn the 330ci into just that type of car, weekend tracker, not a club car. Drive hard and look good, should be an enjoyable project. Barring any unforeseen accidents, I don't plan to trade this car when I get a new one. I plan to go NA modding and it should be sporty enough to be fun without being over expensive to maintain and upgrade.

How much does a clean E36 M3 LTW go for these days?

kAst 03-22-2004 06:15 PM

Plan on spending another $6k on a motor rebuild and $2k on a tranny rebuild if you are going to run some boost in an E36 at the track. E36 Ms are getting older and are starting to require some major maintenance. 8psi of boost for 30 minutes straight four times a day will tax the piston rings of even a new motor.

You can learn more about driving in a moderately powered car than in a high HP grenade with the pin pulled. Buy a fully prepped E30 325i for $8k from a club racer who stepped up to an E36. Learn how to put E36 M3s to shame at the track before you think about building something with real HP.

Instructors have a name for the big dollar and overprepared E36 and E46 M3s brought to the track by guys with little experience: parts cars

LOL, yeah I plan on getting my feet wet this summer with my current car, non-m e46 and slowly learn more, get more power. The e36M turbo is the reach car

SGSMGM3 03-22-2004 07:30 PM

Im definitely gonna get a track car after Im settled in. I want like an AWD Eclipse or a lil CRX.

That is good to hear.

It is always cheaper to buy someone else's completed race car than it is to build your own. When you are ready, scan the BMWCCA classifieds and Ebay for abandoned projects and race cars. I know one guy who bought an E36 328i World Challenge car for about 1/5 of what it would cost to build one. It came with spares and all the development was done. Anything that broke had already been replaced with better parts. All the car needneeds for the next 3 or 4 seasons is brakes and tires.

MFarrZHP 03-22-2004 08:39 PM

Well, a 360 Challenge would be my ultimate track car, but since that isnt happening anytime this decade . . . I agree with SGSMGM3, a nice AWD Eclipse sounds like a track car. Although, all my cars have been RW so it may take some adjusting. An RX7 would be a nice track car as well.

My car...will be running DM in the BMW Car Club - going to be 2.9ltr (max displacement for the class and is going to be making around 350hp & weigh around 2400lbs)

Very nice !!

Thank you. Also it sounds like you want DADO's car from DTM Power, I would not recommend having a turbo in a track car.

PHAHEEM 03-23-2004 01:02 AM

I've been thinking about getting an S2000 on the side. :D

qzbeemer 03-23-2004 01:05 AM
