Is a 1 1/2 TON jack strong enough to raise one corner?

I'm thinking about buying this low profile aluminum jack to basic jobs like wheels swaps, brakes pads and rotors. I know our E46 is about 3800 pounds, but I'm just jacking up one corner at a time so will a 1 1/2 TON jack be strong enough. Thanks.

Yup the entire car only weighs about 3400lbs... always use supplemental support tho...

get jack stands as well.

I've got the same jack from Pep Boys - it works great. I think I paid $90 and I've seen it on sale for maybe $10 less. The same company also makes some really nice jack stands as well - same anodized aluminum finish.

And don't forget some wheel chocks or make your own.

I recommend going with a 2-ton jack even though a 1-1/2 ton jack will do the job. And yes, like previous replies suggest, get jack stands and wheel chocks too.

Thanks everyone.

The 1-1/2 ton rating is sufficient to jack up one corner to change a tire or the front or rear to get the car up on stands. The bigger question: Do you really want to trust a $99 nameless POS jack (or even a $400 Snap-On jack) with your life? Use jack stands with any floor jack, please.
