How many of your carry the spare tire with you - cause it could decrease acceleration

i do
yr ponint is okay but what abt if you get a flat ....
i keep the spare in the trunk and it came in quite handy when I had a puncture awhile back (way better to have the spare put on then have to tow it in my book)
I definatly always have it. The only time I think I might take it out would be at the track.
When i had my maxima i took out the spare tire when i bought new rims and tires. Five days later I ran over a sewer grill and ripped through my sidewall at 3AM. Had to leave the car in a parking lot over night. Keep it w/ you.

u forget that the spares function isnt just as a backup. its a vital part of the crumle zone of ur car. u may not know it, but that spare is strategically placed in order to absorb much of the impact. by removing it, ur rear is way more vulenrable to a rear end collision... ur bumper only works good cause it has that spare to reinforce it. sure its good to remove the spare when draggin or autocrossing, but for daily driving, its jus not worth it to remove it.

I took mine out for a while... but I put it back in. anyone remember the 50.1%-49.9% weight balance?? :D without the spare, you're front heavy and disrupts the handling.
I'm way more concerned with handling than straight speed, so I put mine back in. |
If I get a blowout, it's always at the most inopportune times and in the most inopportune places. The peace of mind from a full-size spare is worth more to me than the 0.01 second I'll get from stoplight to stoplight.
do u guys really feel the difference from taking out the spare? its only like what 50 lbs.. is the .0000000000000000000000000001s in accel improvement worth it :)
Mark, you're talking to a group of guys who put $300 into an intake because they like how it sounds. lol Yeah, the acceleration is noticeable. :D :lmao:
I'd keep the spare in the trunk. I've had 1 flat this year (found a screw in my tire)
Girlfriend has had 2 flats in the past year. One from bad alignment (wore a hole on the inside corner) the other from a nail. |
i always keep my spare in the trunk. never thought about the crumple zone either!
