steering wheel audio controls

Does anyone know if you install a alpine deck would you be able to intergrate the steering wheel volume/track buttons to control the new deck? Has anyone out there done it before? Thanks!

Alpine makes a part that does it, but I don't think they ship it to the US. Try looking for a european website, they might be able to ship one to you.

the part that alpine sells is nothing, it just an RF piece similar to the SWI-X that PAC sells. This is what I have in mine & it works excellent.

There is no way to directly wire the inputs from the steering wheel to the head unit. All of the aftermarket accessories that perform this function (I recommend, as did cls1000, the PAC SWI-X) receive inputs from the wheel buttons and produce an IR output that controls the headunit via its remote control input. Basically you program the unit to emit an IR burst that matches the input of the signal it is receiving from the wheel.

So the alpine one is no different? I thought it was a wire-only solution.

Honestly I've never heard of the alpine one. But, look on the back of the alpine unit and see if it has an empty jack. If so, then the product you're talking about might actually exist. But, I have a feeling that if this product does exist and is easily obtainable more people would have them.

i checked into that, as I am an alpine dealer. It's either made by PAC or maybe soundgate, I can't remember which one, in either case, it's not woth it. If I can remember correctly I think it sells for about $150 USD
Just go w/ the PAC, it's inexpensive & very easy to learn...You can splice into the correct wire right under the dash, you don't even have to take the column apart. I think my signal wire was white w/ a red tracer, but I could be wrong, it's been a while. Your may vary anyway. It's best to check it at the back of the headunit.

CLS1000, How much is the pac piece, and do you have a pic of it installed in your car.

there isn't really anything to take a pic of. I have the box mounted underneath my Alpine inside the dash & the IR mounted in the motion detector cover in the middle of the roof, can't even notice it, plus, it's got a direct shot to the head unit. I think it's +/- 15 degrees or something like that, which isn't much, so line of sight is best.

Price? um, I think they are about $49, i'm not at work right now:thumbup: to look it up:thumbdwn:
