Easy reporting of autotrader.com scammers
Being very frustrated at the very high volume of fraudulent adds on autotrader in doing a recent search of BMW's within 10 miles of my place I talked to someone at autotrader.com in the customer service department that handles frauds and scammers on autotrader. She told me that they put in place about a week ago a new set of filters for online adds that will try to curb the high number of fraudulent adds.

The big things that will shut down an add are if the phone number is incorrect or no longer in service or if the car is not in the location that the add claims it to be in. In my case I had a guy with 5 cars in Maylene, AL about 4 miles from me but all the phone numbers were disconnected and when he replied to my e-mail requesting a $500 or $1,000 deposit before purchase he said he was in New York and the car was in Michigan. Typical scammer using a 3rd party escrow service.
So, autotrader.com locates the adds in their database by phone number, that was all she needed to find the specific ones I was calling about. She said that in the future if we report to them an add with a disconnected number or clear fraud case that if we forward the phone number on the add to them it will be investigated quickly and removed if found to be fraud. One of the ones I e-mailed in yesterday was removed by this morning.

The point of this posting is to encourage my fellow BMW people to report fraudulent adds to autotrader.com through their customer support centers and do the same on ebay, I went so far on one ebay scam for a car that I knew was grossly misrepresented that I sent an e-mail through ebay to all of the people bidding on the car so they would cease bidding and report it to ebay.
Send the phone numbers for fraud adds on autotrader along with a brief description of why its a fraud to the following e-mail address or call 1-888-512-0094.
