My mini-home theater setup

Here's a picture of my home theater while we were building it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...r/DSC04226.jpg

It consists of:

96" Screen
Proxima Projector
7.1 Acoustic Research Speaker System
Sony STR-DE835 Digital Audio Receiver
Sony DVP-C600D 6 Disc CD/DVD Changer
Sony Playstation 2
Xbox
Monster cables

Probably nowhere near as crazy and pimp as some of the setups you guys have. But for a college kid, not bad, heh.

Any reason you went with a 4:3 screen?

I bought the setup from another fanatic, and that's how he had it set up.

Ken:
Are those your rear surround speakers hanging on your wall? Ideally, you should put those behind you to get the surround effect  You probably knew that, but I thought I'd throw that out there. Set-up looks good, except you should change your screen to a widescreen aspect. I've heard of people who are on budgets use the blackout material for curtains as their screen material.

look at that link, my bro-in-law used this for his home theater setup and it's so pimp!

Hey Simon, I have 2 other speakers to each side of the projector and a subwoofer right under it.

What are the 2 speakers in the front for?

kpeng 02-17-2006 07:59 PM

Just for the hell of it. Makes the audio sound more whole and on a larger scale I think.

I don't understand. Where is the source of the sound?

kpeng 02-17-2006 08:28 PM

the receiver. You can't see the wires that go up to them. Cause they're hidden *shhhh*

No you don't understand. There are only a certain number of channels. In a 7.1 channel setup 2 front, 4 behind you and 1 in center. Along with the lfe channel for bass. Where are you getting the 4 channels for the front?

from the previous thread...
(and peeps i started a thread where everyone can just post there own pics here http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=338855)

There just for the high range and are B-speakers where as the towers are A's. I know it's a little messy in the rear but we are going to clean up that wall later. It looks great in person and the sound is great when playing madden.

Everything is final yet (ie, the projector will have an actual mount and wires will be hidden. But for now we'll just enjoy our 96'' diagonal TV.

Kpeng: hope you guys fix your broken PS2 or game.
