***Final E90 Impressions***

For those considering the e90, here's a brief write-up that someone asked me to post up so here we go. As a frame of reference I am an M3 owner so I may be nitpicking on some points as compared to my car.

Likes:
-the way it drives, still like a bmw
-the ammenities ie bt, xenon lit handles, new rain sensing wiper switch, dimming side view mirrors
-the engine for what it is (325)
-fit and finish better than e46
-temp dials are a nice touch

Dislikes:
-Touchy initial bite on brakes, not enough feedback
-Steering is too heavy
-Throttle lag
-Ergonomics are terrible, window switches too far forward, interior is no longer driver oriented, terrible location of cupholders
-Quality of materials not up to par with e46
-HVAC not easily controlled, anything less than 83 deg blows cold air and 84 deg is too hot, no comfortable level found
-Interior styling very bland and un-bmw like, door panels big turn off
-Exterior styling

It's so nice to have my baby back after all this. I will be keeping this car for ahwile.

wait, so you compared driving an e90 325 to your e46 m3? to me,that's obvious that your m3 would drive better! wait for the e92 m3 to make a comparison

MESH_KING 03-28-2006 12:34 PM

I guess you need a lesson in reading comprehension and you just lived up to your user title superman. I said I liked the way it drove and didn't compare the power or handling to my car, where did you see that :slap:

Ok well I just got a loaner 325 E90 and basically everything he said I have to agree with. Especially the brakes being way too sensitive. The window controls are not only way too far foward, but the way the arm is shaped it slopes down and away from you. I don't like the turn signal, everytime I changed lanes it didn't go off and I would always try to turn it off but it would just switch to opposite turn signal.

What I disagree with is the interior is better than the E46. At least comparing the E90 Sedan to the E46 coupe... I would most definately choose the coupe over the sedan.

RO,
What does it matter, I still own your g35. Oh and by then I'll have a gt3>m3.

Simon, read all the text below that disclosure genius then you'll catch on.

MackN,
You just reinstilled some normalcy back into this board thank you.

Nah we're on the same page, I mean the way the stuff is put together. It's more solid than our cars but don't get me wrong I love the e46 materials and style much more.

I also recently drove a 325i loaner for a day (step). I have a 330i, which has more power and handles better than the 325, but had a similar experience:

Good:
- DSC has improved. Seems like they raised the threshold a bit more, where it does not hinder driving as much as in my car. Tires actually chirp a bit when you mash the gas from a stop.
- Throttle response was actually a bit better than my car.
- Although I also did find the AC controls a pain in the butt, it is nice they have dual controls.
- Blinkers: Although I had a very hard time getting used to them (difference between 3 blinks - lane changing- vs. constant blinking is hard to figure out). I kept constantly going from one side, to the other trying to turn them off during lane changes. I am sure after a couple days, you would get used to it and be using the 3-blinks to change lanes properly. Great feature, once you figure out how to do it.
- larger console, aux in (don't know if standard though).
- Cluster: You can look at clock and temperature at the same time.

Not so good:
- Window switches! How did they come up with that place! I guess just a matter of getting used to it.
- I don't drink in the car myself, but cupholders are a joke.
- The whole car feel is a bit disconnected from the road. Don't know if it is the suspension, run flat tires or what, but I get a lot more feedback from my car.
- Not crazy about run-flat tires. Extra trunk space is nice, but I would prefer a spare.
- Not crazy about the "keyless" key either. Would be much better just to push start button without having to get the key from your pocket. I am sure it will be a standard feature in a couple years though.

I did like the interior though. After getting back in my car, my interior did seem a bit outdated, kind of what an e36 looks like after you are in an E46.

The 325 gets much more attention than my car, which I can care less about.

i like the looks of the e90, as long as they have the 18inch sport wheels.

look at that pic....the body looks too big for the wheels. doesnt look right.
