Can someone please post the speaker sizes and locations

of all the speakers included in the coupe HK system? Also, if someone knows the impedence of the factory speakers that would be cool to ;)

I gotta do something about this stereo soon!

TIA,
Steve

hey steve what's up? I posted pics yesterday......both front & rear are 160mm, which means a 6" is a perfect fit. Regardless of what you run you will need to fabricate an adp. to fit, but your biggest concern will be with depth in the bottem of the doors.

Thanks. I'm just trying to figure them all out so I can upgrade the whole thing. If there is any one thing I'm disappointed about with my BMW purchase I'd have to say it's the stereo... especially since I paid the extra dosh for the HK system.

So, do you know what size all the speakers are? So far I got 2 - 6" speakers in the doors, 2 - 6" speakers in the back (sides?), and to 6x9 subs in the deck. What are the others? 1" tweaters in the front doors? and...

I know a lot of guys have done upgrades, so I suprised it's so hard to find this info. Any help would be appreciated

here is what's in the top of your front doors. the larger speaker is your factory mid, which is also what is in your rear 1/4 panels behind the circular grill. These are tough to replace because of their size and depth, plus the are a midrange, not a tweeter.....hope this helps....

Thanks for the pic! You wouldn't happen to know the diameter of those speakers would you? I have an old set of 4.2 Boston Pro's and I wonder if I could fit 'em in there :)

they are pretty close to a 2", you would have to do some serious surgery to get those in there, including cutting the metal behind the panel. not worth it in my opinion, there is no depth back there what so ever...

Your best bet is skipping the 3-way setup, and going to a traditional two way setup.

Take a look here:

I have a few photos of what's involved in swapping it out. You can easily get a 6.5" midbass in a coupe..it takes some mild fabbriaction, but nothing too hard.

The same is true for the rear deck, but a 6 or 5.25" is far more comfortable.

I would block off the factory tweeter, and put the aftermarket setup where the factory midrange was.

You could pop the old Boston setup in kickpanels, then throw dedicated midbasses in the doors....that would be a nice threeway setup....or, create some tweeter bridges for the bostons, and mount them co-ax style in the rear deck for rear-fill if you enjoy it that way.
