question about eating pre and post workout

How long should I wait to eat after working out? Also how long should I wait to workout after eating?

i know the health nuts will be chiming in on this one but i usually have a protein bar or something to help replenish the proteins after a workout.

right after? Those protein bars pack a lot of calories, is it ok to eat if you are trying to lose weight?

you should eat then wait about an hour before you workout. if you take a preWO supp. you should take it on an empty stomach about 30-45 min. before.

for after, you should IMMEDIATELY (like within 5 minutes) consume at least 40 g of protein coupled with about 80 g of fast acting carbs.

Sure, it's what you eat that is very important if you want to lose weight (ie eliminating foods with high fat content). combining it with cardio workouts or high intensity interval training (HIIT) has really worked for me.

can you explain why? I guess the mechanics of it?

Also is this regardless of whether or not you do a cardio or weight training workou?

basically, you need high GI starchy carbs that spike blood sugar levels after you workout to restore glycogen levels. you can only do this PWO with these carbs, otherwise eat low GI (oats) carbs throughout the rest of the day. also because it absorbs so fast, it helps absorb all of the protein you need PWO.
also, it "translates the body's hormonal state from catabolic to anabolic (Muscle protein synthesis, cortisol suppression, shuttling of nutrients into the muscles"
