e90 Luminated Door handles conversion--> e46
:idea: So my friend bought a e90 and we just cant get enough of the luminated door handles!!! I jsut thought itd be cool to have the e90 luminated door handles be for our e46'. it looks so classy and slick* Like the one where u lock and unlock the door or open or close / and theres the luminated led light that comes out close to the door handles. Who would be willing to buy one if a kit was made for the e46 with same quality lighting, design, fitment? Id personally want one and would pay round $200 here or there for a set if thier oem quality. whatd bout you guys?

but i can't decide if i "think" or "know" it woudl look good

thread revival

Manuki, have you finished the project yet? i would have to agree that 200$ is a bit steep. the original 160-180$ you quoted 4 months ago seemed a bit more reasonable... what's that status?

isnt there a diy on this already??

manuki 08-05-2007 12:06 AM

yes theres a DIY on it, but the quality of it just doesnt compare. the one that will be introduced will also be a kit for easier installation and be using oem parts along with a built in keyhole cover delete.

Manuki, this thread is about a year old and no product yet? :hmm:

manuki 08-06-2007 12:39 PM

as of now, nope :banghead: its my first time dealing with manufacturing and designing of a product and theres just been so many obstacles in the way. problems here and there. it has been a long time. this should of have been done with production in rougly 4 months. but engineering the plastic coverings took a while along with figuring out a way to make it fit with an existing oem piece. lastly, its the quality of the leds thats actually taking the longest. we've gone through 4 manufacturs of surfance mount leds. either they were inconsistant with the color and intensity, or they were too much of a blue tint, or too white. were looking for the most OEM color to match that of the e90s.

I really hope this product will be out soon. i know as of now, we have a more week till we recieve our last 8 samples of different LEDS. after next week, well decide on it and production will begin. hang in there for those who are interested. let me know if you guys have any questions ! thx for the wait .. :thumbsup:

thanks for the update. i believe that once you do "perfect it" many people will jump on it. Especially with a price point below 200$.

Question: will this product replace the whole handle, or just the keyhole piece?

manuki 08-06-2007 05:45 PM

it will replace keyhole piece and be replaced with a keyhole cover:)

:rofl: I almost forgot about those.

$200 is way steep cause you can do it with a DIY that will cost you only $20 in parts and give you the same effect. I dont think people have an appreciation of the amount of work/time needed for running the wires to make this mod work. Most of the work is running the wires. Unless this kit somehow makes it easier to run the wire from the doorhandle into the cabin, its not much easier/better than a DIY.
