HackTheIBus Yahoo Group is Lagging
I've been trying to join the HackTheIBus group on Yahoo for about a month now.
Nobody has approved my membership. I have noticed that they've had 5 new members within a week as of the end of last week. Any idea why they are selectively adding people? Besides the usual "Join This Group" procedure, can anything be done to speed up the approval process? |
:hmm:
|
80 views and nobody has a clue?
:hmm: indeed. Can someone bug the group admins there for me please? |

Sorry, I don't have any tips for you other than be patient. Well, that and try to sound like you have a good reason for being added in your email. I'd bug the admins but I think they'd probably respond by kicking me out :P |

By saying that something newer is out, are you referring to the K-line? If not, what exactly then? Here's what I think I know so far: The I-bus is generally used to control the audio (and navigation) electronics, including the steering wheel controls. It seems as though the best way to connect to the I-bus is via Reslers device. The K-bus, on the other hand, controls a lot more, including: DME – Digital Motor ElectronicsNotice all those "(possibly including IBus?)" comments I've added. This is where I think the technologies overlap. I wanted to confirm this by running a thorough search within the messageboard on the Yahoo Group. So far, I know of three ways to connect to the K-Bus: GT1 DIS, P.A.Soft, and Carsoft. If I can confirm that I can have the same functionality of the I-Bus with the use of the K-Bus, then I might as well ditch the I-Bus and "Hack the K-Bus" instead. |
i believe hacktheibus yahoo group is RIP.. ive been researching the i/k bus and doing some testing im working on a little project ;)
you can connect to the ibus with a 40$ interface (or you can build it) and some simple vb applications that are available i believe one website that has ibus info is mp3car.com IIRC |

Did you connect to it using one of the three interfaces I've mentioned, or did you make your own? Funny that you mention mp3Car.com, I've been an active member there for about three years now. This will be my fifth carputer in my third car to date. I just want to put a lot more planning with the advanced features (total car control) now that I've gotten so good with the basics (audio, video, and navigation). |

I haven't messed much with the k-bus, but I think most things I was looking for for my carPC are on the iBus (GPS coords, steering wheel controls, on-board monitor buttons, plus the DICE and sirius). AFAIK, lights and telephone/bluetooth are also sent over the ibus, while lower level things (LCM, headlight aiming, braking) are only available via the k-bus. It's a pretty cool system, so it's too bad development on things related has slowed/stopped. I'm finding that I need to write most things I want myself. good luck with your carPC! |
What I am most interested in determining how I can use bluetooth in my car and still use the microphone that is installed for the phone system. Has anyone been able to hack that?
|
i just use an external gps thru my carpc.
but i can't seem to get my resler's ibus controller to work properly |
