This will take some time, but lable EVERY wire you disconnect from each connector. I recommend using a Bentley manual to help with labeling, or simply use numbers to match up the wire to connectors.

If you don't do this, you WILL regret it.

Take your time...

Thanks will do. Anyone have a DIY guide or something?

Why are you pulling the motor?

bimmer323boy 10-09-2008 06:10 AM

The head gasket went in the old motor and i bought another motor and need it installed asap. I lost my garage in the move lol.

Get a bently manual. It has a very good guide for pulling the motor. Also, why not put a 328 motor in while you're there. It's plug and play.

Honestly the pull isnt that bad. I recommend taking the hood off as opposed to locking it in the service position. You will need every inch possible. As mentioned before label every plug you pull, and if possible take some pics of the harness routing.

Its open to debate but some of my friends claim that its easier and faster to pull the motor with the tranny, and some say its better without the tranny. i personally do not trust the factory hard points on the motor. With that said i wouldnt pull it with the tranny. Good luck man. If I can get a hold of a scanner Ill scan some of the pages from my bentley manual if you dont allready have one.

Thanks alot for the help guys Im gonna go after this tonight, lol. But I was told I had to keep it 2.5 if i upgraded to 326 I needed to change alot of things???

We (me+mechanic) pulled the engine with the tranny and the exhaust manifold still attached. We only disconnected the hood from its shocks to allow us to rise it a bit more for clearance.

Honestly I dont think you will need to change too much. i have to do a bit of research to confirm the following, but i believe the engine harness should be the same with all of the wires being the same length. Not sure about the ECU however. You might also have to swap some of the sensors if they have different values or manufacturers so as to mach the setup you had on your previous motor. Again i have to do some research to back that statement up with facts because Im just going off of previous experience.
