E36 vs e46

Ok guys this probaly has been over before but how many of you agree that a e46 is more powerful, better handling, and more comfortable than the e36. I mean I never driven a e36 before, but Ive been in one what do you guys think, are they faster or about the same? And both are 325i btw. Thanks!

Anybody else?

nope just you and I. That's how I like it

E46 would be better as a daily driver. Fun wise, I think I'd give that title to the E36 (M3). I had more fun test driving an E36 M3 than I ever did with my ZHP. I'm thinking E36 325 would probably be better than E46 325. It has more torque and power in a lighter body.

I have yet to own an E36 so I really cant make a fair judgement, but I do have a E46 and I love it so my vote goes to E46.

The E46 interior is a much nicer place to be.

The E46 has a much nicer interior. Especially black/alcantara along with CF trim features.

But the E36 IS WITHOUT A DOUBT a faster and more nimble car. This is of course assuming it has been maintained properly. I don't mind driving our E46 325 on the backroads. The feel it delivers is pretty solid but feel and reality are two different animals.

+1.

Having owned both cars, I will say the E36 is a much more raw vehicle. It feels much more connected to the road whereas the E46 feels more polished, more refined and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. They feel like two different animals in terms of driving characteristics. One word really defines the E46: SMOOTH; whether you're putting aorund town or tracking it, the car feels so bloody composed!

For an overall experience including comfort, amenities, space, and driving pleasure, I have to give the nod to the E46. It's just so much nicer than my E36 was (and that car was HEAVILY modded in comparison to my 330Ci). Take all the things you dislike about the E36 and work them out, the end result is the E46. That's probably the best I can summarize the two

well i have an e46 325i

and the only experience i have with e36s is driving three different m3s

I have to agree i love those cars cause it is so raw, you hear the engine more, you feel more power, it is way easier and cheaper to mod and ther eis a larger market of artermarket parts.

also repairs on them aren't so bad. coming from an e46 that hasnt had much change since then... i already know the ropes. If i were to ever get an e36 it would HAVE to be an m3.

For some reason my friends e36 318i is extremley comfortable. Its almost on the same level as my e46.

Sorry, but the e46 is superior to the e36. I look at the e36(325i) now, and it looks just plain old... Plus, the e46 looks much better, inside and out!

I hear you. The E36 is a very simple to maintain. My Z3M is technically a E36 but with rear suspension from the E30. So it's really a E33 ((36 + 30)/2)? It is very raw compare to the E46 (M3 or non-M). Steering and suspension provide a lot of feedback from the road. I also drove a friend's Z4 for a while. It just does not feel as connected. But what surprised me is that the Z4 with stock suspension can go through the same corner at about the same speed as the M roadster with H&R and Bilstein combo. It's really a strange feeling. The Z4 doesn't inspire as much confidence. But it goes through the bends fast anyway. The M3 can actually go fast through the same bends than Z3M. But the experience is not as intense. My E46 ZHP isn't shabby at all compared to the Z3M in terms of handling. I think cars are getting less raw every generation by design. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as you keep an older gen BMW for the occasions when you want some rawness. :)
