Valve Adjustment Pricing

I called up my local stealer for a price on Inspection II. They want $1760. I asked how much they wanted for a valve adjustment. They quoted me $386. I think the valve service price is fair. What do you guys think?

Rallye BMW quoted me $1100 for Inspection II. I might have to jump on this.

By any chance, is the dealer/stealer you're talking about habberstad? Just curious because they told me the same thing.

$386 for the valve adjustment?

That sounds pretty cheap, so cheap that it's not even worth to DIY anymore :yikes:

kaiv 11-25-2008 10:43 PM

Oh and I asked BMW of San Diego the price of an Inspection II just for kicks when I picked up my oil... $2100 they said

No. Buy the shim kit one time and it'll have more than paid for itself by the time you finish the easssssyyy DIY.

...and then every valve adjustment you do thereafter will only cost you gaskets.... instead of $386 again.

Hell, find some local members on the side and offer them a valve adjustment for parts + $50 cash.

Inspection II in AZ

Wow, Im glad I live in Arizona. Babbit Motor Werks here in Mesa, AZ has quoted me $550 for Inspection II WITH a valve adjustment. I need to hop on this ASAP :craig:

Well up here in overpriced Canada Inspection II at the ONLY BMW dealership where I live is $2,300. What a joke. Thats why I bought my M3, enough oil and filters for two changes, a set of front and rear brakle pads, an AC belt and my complete audio system for the car all in the US. Next up will be tires, headers and spark plugs. All from the States. The dealership here charges $215 for an oil change !!

anyone in the miami / ft lauderdale area i can get inspection two done for about 900 parts included. @ bmw dealer pm me.

Great point!

I'll DIY for sure then. I wouldn't want to let someone else have all the fun :craig:

It is a lot of fun to do an easy DIY like this, gets you more intimate with your car and its cool to tinker with some of the cool components of an awesome powerplant that you don't get to see everyday. The sense of accomplishment is very satisfying for the short bit of time it takes.

...and the few bucks saved is just an added bonus! :)
