well, ive decided
a sc on a step is a waste.............soooooooooooo..............what would be good cams to get? how much? how hard to do? i can do a cam job on a v8 so i am mechanically inclined..............i figured when i do vanos, may as well do pulleys, and while im doing the valve cover gasket might as well do cams ,lol....................anything im missing ? hehee

i just got my cpu done at active too for xmas, eh, im sure having it redone for cams shouldnt be too much

Do your homework before you dive into cams. They're hollow and bend easily (ruining them). Requires BMW special tools, although I think there may be a special procedure that allows it to be done without the expensive tools. You can swap the vanos without messing up the timing... but not the cams. Getting the timing right on the cams/vanos requires, you guessed it, another special BMW tool. Having done cams on another car is a definite plus, just make sure you really know what you're doing before tackling the cams on your BMW. I've seen a few professionals get it wrong. You might also talk to Stuart (330i ZHP) as he's done cams recently for his TS3 build. Good luck!

if sc on a step is a waste, then cams probably are too. :dunno:

but yea, def. do your research.

in the correct forum ;)

ya think? cams shouldnt push the tq limit of the step no?

simsima325 01-11-2009 11:00 PM

no, but the gains won't be felt as much on a step as they would on a manual.

you can SC a step car, but you have to be conservative on the boost... its all calculated risk toward blowing your tranny.

i know, but the cost of cams , $1400 compared to cost of sc $10k........seems like a no brainer on a step to me after thinking and researching it
