First Circuit City, now....

Bose.

Friend who is a regional sales rep just got the pink slip today. Said 1,000 cuts were made in his market.

He thinks it's because of their vested interest in Circuit City.

That doesn't mean Bose is going under, that just says they're cutting back. I don't think we'd be so lucky...

cjrivera 01-21-2009 07:39 AM

Maybe they'll cut back on all those annoying TV commercials to save money.

Why does everyone hate on Bose?

The Jerk 01-21-2009 09:16 AM

I'm not certain, but didn't Bose invent the compact satellite home theater speaker concept? Nobody was really doing that before. No reason to put them down.

Because of their cheaply made products and subverisive sales tactics. Not to mention the fact that one can purchase an equally good HTiB setup for 50-75% less than a Blose lifestyle system.

I'm in the market. Can you recommend a few?

Over-rated, overpriced, heavily marketed.

Nothing sounds less natural than a Bose system. Everyone else already touched on the other issues, so I'll refrain.

BOSE. Better Off Something Else. Period!!!

Here are some good examples that I can think of off the top of my head. AVSforum has many threads dedicated to recomending these types of systems. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=109

HSU rsearch: http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vt-12.html - You will need to add a subwoofer to this, but it will still be cheaper than the Bose system.

Dynaudio: http://www.dynaudio.com/eng/systems/...ience42sat.php

B&W: Mini Theatre http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/displa...nfid=821&sc=ht

Is space an issue, or are you drawn to the relative value to be had in an all in one box solution?

Bose just isn't good, especially considering the money people pay for it. They have fantastic marketing.

Checkout the Home Theater subforum here....lots of great info.

I cringe when one of my friends gets excited telling me about their Bose xyz system. My G35 has Bose and it is adequate, but nothing I mention to people. My buddies with an Altima are quick to point it out though :lmao:

Pretty cool. I'm not ready yet to set up my 'home theater' but I'll definitely give this a look within a month.

Yes, I'm concerned with both space and relative value, as well as simplicity. I'm not very discerning when it comes to sound, nor could I tell you what I don't like about a sound that just doesn't sound right to me, but I know what I like. For example, I hate those 'virtual surround' options on TVs.

In that case the best advice I can give you is to go listen to some different options, and buy what you like best.

Bose does have one major advantage and that is ease of use. The biggest problem at the moment is that it does not offer HDMI or decoding of any of the new codecs.

'busa 01-22-2009 08:45 AM

I like the look of that HSU research unit up above. I've never heard of them, though.

The G35 would have the lower end Bose system. I had an M35 with the high end Bose system, and it was the best stock system ever tasted :idhitit:
