WTB: 3.38 or 3.46 Diff (e46)
I am looking to buy a 3.38 or 3.46 diff to replace my 2.93 diff. So let me know if you have one. Alternatively, if you know where to get one locally (I'm in Melbourne) I'm open to ideas - note that I've already tried BM Penn.

Thank mate, I'll give them ago. By the way, I think I've seen your ride before around Glen Waverley locality.

my car has got a 3.38 ratio now, can i replace it by a 3.46
any problems?
anyone has done it?
where can i get one and how much can i pay for it?
cheers guys

Seriously you are not going to change a 3.38 for a 3.46 as they are so close you wouldn't notice anything. 3.38 to 3.62 or 3.91 then yes you will.

E46Professional 04-30-2009 06:13 AM

In a 318i, this mod would be a waste of time. You ruined my thread!

jpdp 04-30-2009 06:34 AM

I've been thinking of doing this.
Would it be worth it in a manual 330 Cab?
Anyone done it in Aust?

E46Professional 04-30-2009 06:46 AM

Yes a few of us have. I believe the 330 cabs have a lower ratio diff stock than the coupes/sedans. so you will probably have to go for an even lower diff ratio. I went from 2.93 to 3.38 and it was a good bang for your buck mod. Better than the exhaust and on par with the AFE CAI.

jpdp 04-30-2009 06:49 AM

So it should accelerate faster. Is it more fun to drive?
How do you have the spedo re-calibrated?

E46Professional 04-30-2009 06:52 AM

Let's just say with all my mods, my 2nd gear feels like how 1st gear was when it was stock. You do not need to get your speedo re-calibrated because our cars don't read the speed from the diff! I have verified this on my GPS.

how much would a 3.46 diff set ya back anywyas?? can the stock diff be taken to a diff place to change ratio? price>?

sprintman 05-01-2009 05:48 PM

KJM Auto Parts have a 3.46 diff for $350.

Rajvosa 05-01-2009 09:25 PM

^ would it bolt onto E46 325ci or modifications need to me made?
what is the stock ratio in 325ci?

do you have contact details for KJM auto parts?

jpdp 05-01-2009 10:17 PM

Where's KJM located?

sprintman 05-02-2009 04:56 PM
