My Amplifier Got Cosmetic Surgery !!!
My friends say I am a little compulsive. OK, very compulsive. I call it passion with attention to detail.
I have a rack full of stuff that is two different colors. I have changed the order and positions about 100 times to try and make it look and fit the best. I pulled the 3 cables boxes, 3 hard drives, vudu box, and dvd recorder and put them in my office closet because they are silver and/or not needed to be accessed. This left me with half black and half silver components. No big deal execept the two heaviest components are different colors. :banghead: You cant buy an APC display panel seperately to make it black (surge supressor/back up system sitting on amp) and it weighs 80+lbs so I cant put it on a shelf. It cost over $1000 so I am not going to buy another one to switch colors. The amp weighs over 100 lbs itself so it also needs to be on the bottom. The solution to my cosmetic dilemia? Replace the amplifier's monster face place with silver. Now I have to just move my PS3 again and lower my shelves and it will be SWEEEET. Check out the transformation..... I am thinking about custom mounting the PS3 flat to the wall under my plasma. It has the same gloss black finish and would almost look like a piece of art. No wires or controllers showing. Flat on the wall centered below the TV. No power wire either. Opinions? http://www.buymybimmer.com/aplasma01.jpg http://www.buymybimmer.com/aplasma05.jpg |
Amp looks classy! I gotta vote no to mounting the PS3 though. Wouldn't flow with the rest of the room.
Water spots on the camera lens? |
nice rack man...no h0mo

Looks great.
OT question: how often do you switch out equipment just because. I figure since your a big installer companies are always trying to push their latest and greatest and you probably get some good promotional deals. Obviously your living room seems pretty done but what about speakers and receivers and stuff in other rooms. |

I do not have any other receivers in any other rooms. I have a 42" Panny Plasma in the guest room on the wall, a 37" Panny Plasma in the Master on the wall and some LCDs here and there (garage, kitchen, office, etc) I run a NuVo Grand Concerto Whole House Audio System. It runs 16 speakers through my home. Each room has its own keypad which allows you to choose any source for that room. My sources include: AM, FM, XM, Sirius, Pod 1, iPod 2, Cable Box 1, and my Escient Media Server (1200 DVDs and CDs) The keypads are two way so you see the artist, albumn, title, etc on the iPods and Tuners. This system allows you to centralize all your sources and listen to them anywhere so you dont have to have equipment in every room and you dont have to buy multiple copies of DVDs or CDs. It also works well as a party mode to sync all rooms at predetermined volume level and same source throughout the home. Doorbell and telephone interface is cool also. I have the COOLEST thing on order right now!!! It is a handheld two way keypad remote that you can carry around to control the system. It is the same keypad as the wall except it is portable. It has its own screen that tells you the station, mp3 tags, etc. Basically, you can set on the back patio and dial up your music like an ipod for your ipod that is half way across the house. TOO COOL! PS - I have a TINY company not a big shot by ANY stretch of the imagination. Just a guy trying to make a living doing what he loves. http://www.buymybimmer.com/fan1.jpg |
Awesome thanks for the reply. I know wha you mean about small company just making a living ha we own a couple small seafood joints. Only perk we get is all the seafood and stuff but I get sick of it. I would much rather get new high end electronics all the time. Ha.
Another random question does the media player allow you to play multiple movies in different rooms at the same time? |

I just have one that controls 3 Sony ES 777 400 disc DVD changers. I dont have kids, so I have no need to stream multiple rooms seperately especially with 3 HD DVRs and a Vudu box. |
One of these days I will convince you to ditch the Nuvo and go to Control4 or dare I say Crestron :)
Rack looks much better now. Congrats! |

He's said multiple times he is not a fan of Crestron. Not really sure why though, other then the money of course. |
By the way, I'm going to the config and essentials class in a week. Can't wait to get to the level i am at with AMX and C4.

But what I do know is that NuVo dealer support is flat out amazing. Those guys REALLY try to go the extra mile. I was having a problem with two keypads, they sent me 8 to replace them all, etc, etc. I have toyed around with Control4 for like 4 years now and each time (CEDIA, CES, EHX, etc) something stops me from becoming a dealer. Seems like a loose company to me. Too many different answers, etc. Crestron is a Porsche 911 Turbo. They are nice, but out of my league overall. Trippin - why are selling the Runco? What do you think about my PS3 mount idea? |
I'm sellin the Runco because I moved, don't have room for it anymore. The best room I have for it is so short I can only get 73" out of it unless I buy a nice wide angle lens, which I just don't feel like doing. It's bright as hell at 73" though, haha.
I will talk to you about C4 sometime if you want. I've been through the ups and downs with it for several years now, and I really love the product now. Anyways, I can't disagree about Nuvo. Their corporate headquarters are literally 3 minutes from my house, so I know the people there very well. I just think it's pretty limited for what it can do, given that products like C4 are getting to be so inexpensive for what they can do. But yeah, Crestron and AMX are going to be out of my league for a long time too, haha. |

very nice!
I am actually going to be contacting you soon... a lil while ago I told you i was going to upgrade my parent's theater... well they are finally ready to go through with it... First step is upgrading the sunfire preamp as well as the sunfire amp (may keep this piece though)... and adding blu ray of course. the limitation is def going to be the projector (only has dvi input/component inputs but I guess a hdmi--> dvi adapter will do) i am also going to build them a decent shelf rack along with organize all the components/wires (theres like 10 components and a million wires, real messy) |
I would have just bought a louvre door.
