EDIABAS/INPA Help, how to calibrate the LWS error 5E1F
Well I got all the DSC/ABS wiring done ON MY e46 RACE CAR and only have on error:
5E1F ABS/ASC/DSC: VIN not initialised, execute LWS calibration The word "initialised" is misspelled. I have looked for documentation to execute the LWS calibration, but have not found it so far. Any help out there would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris EDIABAS/INPA Help, how to calibrate the LWS error 5E1F |
I'm not 100% sure but I don't think INPA can do that calibration. May need to get ahold of a GT1.

If I'm not wrong, that error means the installed ABS unit is from another car (probably a used ABS that you've installed). When the DME reads a different VIN off the ABS, it triggers the DSC light in your instrument cluster but the DSC/ABS function is still working. To get rid of the light/warning message you'll have to re-write your DME's VIN to the used ABS unit via 'ncs expert' so that both VINs match.
Resetting steering angle sensor is easy and can be done with INPA. Enter E46, Chassis, DSC (MK20 or MK60 depends on your setup) from there follow the menus, you'll read the VIN and Miles onthe used DSC and another menu should reset the steering angle sensor. I don't remember exactly where the entry is as I was in your exact position about a year ago and things went smooth so I'm sure you'll find it. Just make sure the wheels are straight and you've already aligned your wheels. If you tilt the steering wheel left or right you can see from INPA the readings off the LWS vary from -tve to +tve. Good Luck! |
I just got done replacing the DSC MK60 in my 2002 325CI with a used unit I bought on ebay. After the original unit failed dealership wanted around $2000 to replace, I went with option #2 and spent $125 instead.
After installing the MK60 from another vehicle you'll need to recode the unit with your VIN and vehicle order ( ZCS/FA ) using NCS Expert. This should resolve the "coding error" and CAN bus errors. The error you mention I had also and it took me hours to figure out how to resolve. There is a job in INPA 4.4.7 under something like E46 - Chassis - DSC MK60 - Adjustment called something like "Initialize Steering Angle Sensor". I had to hold down shift and press one of the F-keys to launch it. After running the job, the DSC light and brake light immediately turned off and I'm no longer seeing the 5E1F error. I wasn't able to find this job in INPA 5.0.1, it seems there are less options for the E46 in the newer version. Good luck and hope this helps others with the dreaded MK60 failure :) |
