Power loss from wheels

After I installed my 18 inch v710s. I noticed a huge power loss. Anyone else have something similar?

It looks good. But it sux...

Was already slow enough before that haha

nka203 08-31-2009 06:27 PM

lol too heavy?

nightrunner20 08-31-2009 06:29 PM

Yep

mkodama 08-31-2009 08:09 PM

Heh, sux. At least you don't have a 323, 320, 318, or 316

What size tires did you put on them?

nightrunner20 08-31-2009 08:21 PM

Ehh forgot. But I do rub with ppl in back seat on sport springs. Guess I can look into headers

I was just curious because if you get tires that are larger in diameter than before, it reduces the torque you put to the ground slightly. Kinda like the opposite effect of when people go from a 2.91 to 3.15 differential, but to a lesser degree.

Yea. Thank u. I mean I know these wheels weighed it down. Not much u can do about that.

Damn, I was hoping this would not be true, but your experience confirms my biggest fear about going from stock 17s to big wheels and tires.

I guess we are in the same boat. Got my V710 in 18 for a month.
Gas miles from 25-28avg down to 22-23 avg. Wont go over 26mpg on road tirp that I always avg 28-29mpg. Car feels powerless, brake seems doesnt stop the car at all, where with my old stock 17 my brake can grip and stop on dime. :banghead:

It does look make my car look alot better.

That's the trade off with aftermarket wheels. Light and expensive or cheap and heavy.

Don't get me wrong, VMR wheels are GREAT quality and priced very reasonably. Just not the lightest, but goes hand in hand with a cast wheel I suppose.

Does VMR publish the specs showing the weight of these rims? Any source that shows the weights of various stock rims? Would be interesting to compare.

which stock wheels did you have on before?

according to what I've found, my stock Style 44's are 23 lbs and my (on order) 19" Linea Corse wheels are 23.5 lbs so I hope I don't notice that much of a difference...
