Questions about my E36
I have an E36 M3 and lately the drivers window will roll up most of the way but sometimes it will not tuck in at the very top outer black door trim. Sometimes it does and I will be driving and hit a bump and it will roll down and my door lights inside the car go on as though it thinks the door is open. I assumed it was an issue with the window regulators but I am not sure. Any insight into this issue?
It is really irritating at times when my lights inside the car go on for no reason or when I hit the arm/lock button on my fob and it only arms and not locks because of the stupid window not being quite tucked in properly.
The switch that lets the car know your door is closed is beginning to wear out. If you (with the door open) look inside the door jamb where the door clicks into the latch on the inside of it there is a tiny square button. When you push it and hold it down you will notice your window will go all the way up. This is the way BMW coupes seal their "disappearing windows".
The problem your car has is that this little square button isn't making proper contact when the door is closed, thus making the car think that the door is open when it is really closed. Thats also why your interior lights come on. You will also get a lot of wind whistle. I had to deal with it for a while, it was very annoying. The way I fixed it was to tape a small but thick enough piece of flexible plastic onto the button/switch. Hasn't bothered me since *(knock on wood).
