Help with Tranny???!!!
 

I have a 99 328i with an auto tranny. It seems to be stuck in first gear when the temp of the car is low. In other words if the needle isnt in the middle of the gauge the gears dont kick in. After the car warms up, the gears kick in and the car is back to normal.

Other times the exclamation point, "tranny malfunction" light, comes on too.

Have any ideas on why this is? Or what can be done?

I'm wondering if the thermostat for the tranny cooler is bad and stuck open ? just a thought, I don't know if that will affect the gears
