Just out of curiosity doesn't the e46 use an electric fan? I know my e30 uses a viscous clutch I just replaced it, but my 325ci has an electric fan, and no I'm not talking about the aux fan.

the automatic e46 uses a mechanical and the manuals have an electric.
i already have some spare sheet metal at home so i was going to try to diy |
The top tool you have pictured has the notch to clear the shaft and the holes/slots to fit over a pair of the bolt heads so the pulley doesn't turn, allowing you to turn the 32mm nut on the fan clutch. The same thing can be achieved with a long screwdriver shaft, but not as elegantly!
