does anyoen know if the mb quart psd 216 the 6.5" component set will fit in the e46 coupe? also what amp would u guys suggest powering this component set with?

Gotta search the old threads to see if anyone else has mounted them successfully. I don't know about the PSD216, but from an old post of mine below, looks like the QSD216s mounting depth works (2.25") out if surface mounted -- the problem is that the flange on most of the aftermarket speakers is too wide for the stock opening.

A lot of people have been going with Diamond S600s or S500s.

QSD216: 2-way with 6.5" midrange (2.25-2.72" md)

The diamond audio s600s are a little tight in the sedan. But you can do it.
Should be fine for a coupe (deeper speaker cavity I've heard).

zameus, when you say "a little tight," what do you mean? What kind of modding (I'm guessing Dremeling) did you have to do to get them to fit? I also assume you surface mounted them to have sufficient mounting depth?

I just put in some JL X525s, and they're ok (I don't have them hooked up to their crossovers yet, so expecting they'll sound better), but down the road, I may go to the Diamonds if I don't have to heavily mod the doors.

No, no cutting at all. When I say a little tight I mean that the interior door panel doesn't completely seal back on. The clips around the lower quadrant where the speaker is aren't completely in. Don't get the wrong idea, it's nothing you can actually see and it's not loose or anything. But if you run your finger along the bottom edge of where the inner door panel meets you'll feel an 1/16" gap. The back of the speaker magnet touches as well.
When I first installed them I was completely freaked because I thought I was getting no midbass. Turned out it was just the tweeters overpowering the midbass drivers. Once I got a pair of phoenix gold L-pads wired into the tweeters I was able to attenuate them further than the -2db the included passive crossovers alowed for. The setup sounds excellent now. Deep midbass and crystal clear highs. I'm giving them 80 watts off an Alpine f540 and using the stock HU.

And you surface mounted them, i.e., the flange of the driver is on the passenger compartment side of the door trim panel? If that's the case, although it sounds like what you have now works, you could create or possibly buy a space ring to take out that 1/16" or so.

Without the crossovers, my JL tweets are bright as hell but I'm hoping that once they're on the crossovers, I can bump them down -1.5db, and it they need more, I'll be buying some L-pads too...

No, I didn't surface mount them. They're stealth mounted (behind the stock grilles). I made some L brackets and mounted them to the back in the stock location. That's why they're pushing a tiny bit on the panel.

My brother has Infinity comps in his WRX and they came with crossovers with -2,-4,and -6db attenuation options. Talk about making things easier. Don't know why the diamonds and JL's don't go that far but it would be nice if they did.
