Autocad R14

I'm posting this here because there's probably more chance of being seen by someone with the software...

R14 is several versions old now, and totally unsupported by AutoDesk. I'm looking to buy someone's used R14 discs for home use.

Anyone have this version laying around and want to cash in on it? I'd rather trust a Fanatic than general Craigslist or Ebay sellers.

Let me know!

Thanks in advance.

Ken

PS - mods, if you must, feel free to move this.

what are you using autocad for?

ken@bimmertools 04-19-2010 10:14 PM

A variety of things. After 14 years in residential architecture, I feel strange not having it at my disposal. R14 was my favorite version, and I know it like the back of my hand. From home projects to simple vector graphics - it's just what I know best and prefer using.

Wow I remember AutoCAD R14, its the version I learned on in highschool. We just upgraded all of our systems at work to the 2010 version. Soo much better than 07'. I'll see if I know anyone that has that earlier version lying around somewhere.

Thanks!

Doing the type of work I was used to never required more than what R14 had to offer. We also had it pretty well customized. I saved copies of our custom menu system and LISP routines, I just need the engine to install on a new machine.

I worked on version 8 in HS, v12 my first years out of college, and stuck with R14 through several other available upgrades.

ken@bimmertools.com if you find a set of software laying around!

Guess its true what they say, you never realize how much you love someone till they're gone. Obviously your missing R14 and in a lot of pain. But my advice is to think long and hard about getting involved with someone elses R14. You might end up being a rebound. One more thing, if you do end up reconnecting with R14 try not to make a big deal out of the age of her version.

why do you want R14? what's so special about it? does it have any features that you like?

A few reasons:

1. I know it better than other versions, and not needing it professionally anymore, I prefer to use something I am already proficient in.

2. It is one of the last versions that was extremely customizable with menus and LISP routines. I've already got some pre-written menus and commands from when I used it before as well - they just plug in.

3. Smaller and faster than some of the newer versions that incorporate a bunch of 3d stuff that's not needed for what I typically use it for.

4. Works well on XP.

5. Can likely be found cheaper than other versions, and because AutoDesk doesn't support it any longer, they don't care about registering a license (mostly...).

Now, if we're done amusing Brent, how about we move this back to OT :) ?
