$5 Alternative for Lock beep

***Update for video clip and siren test!!***
Hey guys this is my first DIY so please dont burn me too bad lol.
Pics taken from my phone, ill get some better ones up soon.

I got the idea from the GodsSon lockbeep thread.
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...ight=lock+beep

This is just a more simplified process and is just for entertainment.

***UPDATE***

After speaking with a tech at the dealership. They confirm that this will only work with vehicles ARE programed to flash. It usually cost about $60 to have them do it.

Sorry for not putting that info out there sooner.
My vehicle is already programmed to flash the lights and the clown nose. If yours isnt programmed it can be done at the dealer.

Step five
Locate Black wire w/ Blue stripe far left, bottom hole.
Then locate Brown wire w/ Black stripe left upper hole.

Step six:
Pin the ground wire into the lower left hole.
Pin the positive wire into the upper left hole.

~~~ Test your key.
CAR SHOULD BEEP TWICE TO UNLOCK.
(NOTE) YOU MUST HOLD DOWN THE HOOD TRIGGER TO HEAR IT BEEP ONCE AND LOCK!
Step seven:
After deciding where you want to mount your buzzer mount it down with double-sided tape this is where I mounted mine.
** Switch for a bigger buzzer so that the sound is louder***
It can still be heard through the covers but just not as loud as the OEM alarm.
Here is a video I found of a radio shack buzzer on a different car.
It will beep and stay on until your car is disarmed. Now if you opt to use a 2-tone or a pulsing siren it will go off just like any other alarm.
Both can be found at your local Radio Shack.
No, you must program your lights to do so.
Hey OP, is the sound in sync with the flashing lights when it locks/unlocks?
My car is already programmed to flash and the clown nose flashes as well.
bimmerman25 05-02-2010 09:29 PM
Radio Shack says the buzzer in the video is 76 dB. I'm assuming that is before putting it inside of the engine compartment. They also have buzzers with higher dBs ( 80, 85, 90, 95 100, 108, etc.) and a 102 dB piezo siren (search on youtube for a video of this one on a Harley).
tranceasia8 05-02-2010 09:46 PM
the beeps will be in sync with your lights if your vehicle is programed.
I ended up switching the smaller 50db buzzer in the pic out for a larger buzzer putting out 90db. Its pretty loud even when you mount it behind the covers.
Basically the mounting location will effect the sound, IMO anything over 70db should be loud enough to confirm that your vehicle is locked/ unlocked
very cool mod
