hpf stage 4 or s/c e9x

I know that the hpf stage 4 would be faster but by how much?

Thanks for any input

firefirefire90 07-18-2010 08:28 PM

I would rather invest in a Bugatti Veyron

fredwlau 07-18-2010 08:58 PM

Bugatti Veyron aside,

how much faster would an hpf stage 4 e46 be compared to a s/c e9x?

firefirefire90 07-18-2010 08:59 PM

quite a bit. Seeing HPF stage 4 is closing in at the 1000rwhp mark compared to like... 6-800 a s/c is pushing on the E9x M3

it would destroy it plain and simple :D

most of the e9x sc are in the 600-700hp range and hpf stage 4 is over 1100hp and also turbo car gets the full power faster compared to sc which makes it at redline/high rpm's,

only advantage on the e9x is if you get DCT and you can fit bigger tires (IIRC)

Thanks for the quick reply, to the best of your knowledge, how much would of an issue would traction prove to be for the stage 4 in a roll and off the line.

they provide traction control which does good job but still if you want to hook up off the line you would need slicks like on any other big hp car,for a roll there is some good DR's that few guys are using with stage 2.5 and 3,you can search for race-mx threads hes got the fastest 60-130 time with stage 2.5 and he tried few tire/wheel setups

HPF stage 4 is currently not available - re-engineering in process!

fredwlau 07-18-2010 09:22 PM

Great, i'll search his threads up, i'm at a bit of a conflict trying to decide which model to go with. I currently drive a modified e90 335i and want to "upgrade" to an e46 and then eventually HPF stage 4 or an e92 and eventually ESS or Gintani S/C.

At first I favoured the e92 body style but the more threads I read and the more pictures I see of modified e46s, it really is growing on me, and hearing about some of the pulls that the hpf e46s do is really starting to sound appealing, especially considering overall if I went straight from N/A to stage 4 (when it's in production again) it would be cheaper as opposed to n/a e92 and then f/i. I do like the feeling of having a newer car on the road however which is why the e92 is still a choice.

Any thoughts?

Get an e46 with a stage 3 HPF Turbo./

Well i was almost in the same situation :D for past couple months i was trying to decide what to do and it was same thing...either sc e9x,m5 on spray or HPF M3 and after all the research HPF stage 2.5 is what im gonna go with :4ngie: For me stage 2.5 is perfect, lotsa power in pump mode and on meth/race it just gets crazy lol

fredwlau 07-18-2010 09:41 PM

Good to know others have been in the same situation as I, it's been on my mind for the last month or so.

How notable is the performance increase from 2.5 to 3 or 4?

I really appreciate all the input guys.

Are you saying you would go with the e9x? Any particular reasoning behind it?

cnotesdip 07-18-2010 09:47 PM

you know a HPF kit its going to come out for the NEW M3 is just a matter of time... I would go with the new M3 and i would wait for a Turbo Kit for it, you would get free service from the dealer for a couple of years nothing beats a new car.

AirFrcd 07-18-2010 09:53 PM

Maybe I'm wrong, but I disagree wholeheartedly. The new M3 (2012) will be outfitted with Turbos, as such one can only speculate that a tuner/aftermarket provider would choose this road vs. the current NA e9x M3.

Could you link me to some information regarding this?

Thanks!

@AirFrcd

That is exactly what I was thinking, the new m3 is going to be a buffet for aftermarket tuners.

Exactly Brotha, great minds think alike

OP is thinking about getting a HPF stage 4 which is about 45k plus buying a e46 m3 i would say about 22k more that's 67k. I'm sure he can get an 08 m3 still under warranty from the dealer for about 40-48k that leaves you with 18k to spend with this you can build a custom turbo kit for the new M3 and use standalone for the tuning, or he could get a NOS system still make good power.

I entertained this idea for a bit but decided against it as I have yet to see any real performance numbers or results from a custom turbo. If you have any companies you could refer me to that might be able to provide possibilities it would be greatly appreciated. On the contrary, I don't think 18k would be able to get me a very reliable custom turbo kit that would offset the stage 4 on an e46.
