Transmission/Differential Fluid Change
I have a 5 speed 323i, im wondering how often i should change the transmission fluid, im a new owner of the car and i dont know when it was last done. Is the changing the transmission fluid hard compared to changing motor oil? tell me what you think.

It's supposed to be lifetime fluid. In reality, you probably don't need to change it. If you do, I'd search a bit here and you'll see a few alternatives to the BMW oil (which is a bit expensive). As for changing it, really easy. Drain it and fill it until it runs out the fill hole.

Just did it with a friend a couple weeks ago to my 2001 330i- we used RedLine MTL for the tranny and since I am going to do some performance schools and Auto Crosses I plan to change both every 3 years. Used Mobile1 75W90 for the diff...

Got 2 hand pumps from AutoZone and got 2 gallon containers - well built washer fluid containers worked will. Get the car up on jacks and level, loosen the top bolt (not mandatory) and drain via the drain plug. Add the fluid to the clean containers and attach pumps. When done draining tighten the upper bolt (if loosened) and then pump fluid into the tranny and diff till it runs out of the fill hole.

DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE "LIFETIME OIL" STICKER....Change the fluid. If you dont , you will need a new transmission prematurely. I just had my BMW in the shop for a transmission service( pump_torque coonverter" and when I asked them about the sticker and how it just didnt make sense that they have an oil in these transmissions that is SUPER FLUID a. He agreed and said if people dont change the fluid is just means when you do have issues with your transmission ( I have an auto) it most likey means you will need a rebuild once you reach that point as the fluid loses the ability to protect your internal compents....

Bavarian Autosport's maintenance schedule says every 50K miles or 2 years for both types of transmissions and differential - www.bavauto.com

Yep - my '02 has 95k and just changed both fluids. Relatively easy to do.
