Please Help Me Diagnose a P018 / P0118 code

So today when i was coming back from school i was cruising about 65-80 and then all of a sudden the SES light came on, luckily autozone was near by got the codes scan and it came back as p018 or p0118 dont remember which but it said on the scanner screen that coolant temperature lower than default i think...

when i look it up it online and on the forums, the only thing i find is high input circuit for coolant... not sure what this is indicative of

btw, some info coolant has just been flushed..... coolant level is @ min mark on purpose (have driven a good 500-800 miles like this and no problem until today) oil change done, only thing else i can add is that the temperature guage was almost at the middle mark

another thing i can add is that when i was driving back home after getting code scanned with the on board computer running @ function 7, the actual coolant temp was between 86 and 90, before after i flushed the coolant it read the same temp but didnt throw a code? what could me wrong

You need a new thermostat.

thanks.... and yes i didnt add that bmw scanned me and detected a thermostat fault bc i didnt want the responses to be you need a new thermostat in bias of bmws results, but now i know i need a new thermostat for sure, do i need to change it immediately still saving up for the coolant overhaul kit from ecs

until i get around to changing it, i will prob drive 500 miles around 55 mph, or is that a bad idea?

and does anyone else wanna add suggestions of code reasons..

You will be okay, just not as fuel efficient.

^ alright thanks much! well there goes my 25/30 mpg

anyways plan to order ecs tuning stage 2 cooling system overhaul with aluminum pulley in the next 4 weeks... great! more money lost i guess go hard or go home

Interesting! Aluminum pulleys? which one are you talking about? I have to check this stage 2 cooling system out.

yeah its this one, its a pretty good deal has the water pump too and the belts and such, i think this was meant for those at the 100k miles mark but it could be more beneficial to eeven those with 60k mile mark (im at 63k btw)

how long did you drive with the thermostat problem?

Did you install a new thermostat and that fixed the problem?
