Which one would you pick: New Nissan Skyline GTR vs. Used 997 GT3
 

I got some good news today...a job offer with a decent bump in pay. I already have an 05 ZCP M3 and I'm getting the itch to pick up a second car sometime next year. I've narrowed it down to a new Nissan Skyline GTR and a used (08-09) 997 GT3. Which one would you pick and why? I'm leaning towards the GT3 but the GTR can be such a monster with some mods.

Check into mod costs, and make sure that transmission on the GTR is in decent shape. I've read they are pretty expensive to fix.

gt3 styling is soooooo smooth. i love that car.

You guys will never let me live that one down, will you? :rofl: I drove the 996TT for 2+ years after it got fixed before I sold it in 2008.

I actually test drove a GTR last month and was amazed with how it drove (power, smooth, and great handling). I honestly liked it better than the 996TT. Good idea on checking out the mod costs for the GTR because the GT3 is pretty much good to go as-is except for a few mods (lighter exhaust and some coilovers).

Pig or a cheetah? You decide. Seriously though, I don't know which is faster on a track, but I guarantee the Porsche will be more fun to drive due to the lack of weight relative to the GTR

Yup, that's exactly why I'm considering the GTR...it's a freaking monster. If only I could have both the styling/looks of the GT3 and the power of the GTR all in one without having to pay $200k+ for a GT2. :(

the skyline reminds me of the new fad... just like the bentley gt coupe when it came out... all the "successful look at me" 30 year olds were buying them left and right

the porsche is timeless and DESTROYS the skyline in terms of presence on the road

I think they have very similar track times as the additional weight (not that much more) of the GTR is countered by the additional power. I think the GT3 is around 3200/3300lbs (GT3RS is around 3100lbs) and the GTR probably weights about 10% more than a GT3. The GTR reminds me a bit of the MKIV Supra I had back in the day.

I knew a guy who used to have a gallardo and that thing was in the shop every other month. The maintenance costs on it was crazy (I'm sure the 360 has some serious maintenance costs as well). :yikes: I had a 996TT so I have an idea of what a Porsche costs to maintain. I need to do some research on the GTR maintenance though.
