Caviar

Never really had some but I found a market that has 'red caviar'. Gonna go get some..it's like around 30 bucks per pound. I saw a photo it used to be like 36 bucks per pound. Thinking of getting like 1/4 pound for around 10 bucks.

I notice there are so many different kinds like Sturgeon aka Paddle Fish Caviar which is black, then there is Salmon Roe which is red. I have some GC's on Amazon and I see other brands of Caviar too. Anyone want to suggest a preference or have experience trying these? Alaska Smokehouse or Roland brand?

Was totally gonna come in here with an actually good opinion and reference on Caviar, then saw OP's sig.

I've never seen your name, or your posts.

I'm so god damn proud right now.

Someone quote him, can't read his sh!t. Anyways, yeah I'm just exploring the low end stuff. I hear the canned stuff is salty to preserve and not as good. Obviously, I'm not ready for the high end Beluga that costs almost a grand for a few ounces.

salmon caviar sucks... the taste is ok, but they are huge and just pop in your mouth.... not fun at all

black caviar is the way to go IMO... the flying fish roe like you get in sushi places (tobiko) that is red, yellow, or green, is nice to add some texture, but i feel they are truly tasteless compared to the black.

Good stuff, I've had Ossetra and Sevruga for the sturgeon roe, never had Beluga yet.
My Ukrainian ex loves caviar but her favorite since it's cheaper is Salmon roe, not my preference.
I don't mind tobiko but for me it's there more for texture than taste.

I love salmon roe. Especially as sushi - ikura with quail yolk. That's probably my favorite type of sushi.

Salmon Caviar might be the only thing I would not order again at a sushi restaurant. I dunno, i just didn't really enjoy it at all. I need to try some other caviar.
