330Ci Clubsport weight reduction
 
I've started this thread to detail some of the weight reduction I have done to my 330Ci Clubsport, beyond the 20 kg advertised. I'm still researching on ETK what exactly is removed or changed for the Clubsport trim (option code S768A). Weights are given in kg from ETK or if not listed then as weighed.

For now I intend to keep 'full' interior, that's why a lot of the parts for the first round of savings are insulation etc. Note that I put back the insulation over the rear wheel arches in the cabin as this made a lot of water noise come into the car when the roads were wet and was so much more obvious and sucked compared to any general increase in noise, which is very slight anyway. It seems most of the battle in stopping general noise increase is from the trunk area so this also helps here.

I don't weight the car before beginning so I'll have to figure that out from what I know here once I do weigh it.

Were you able to find any more information on this? I am extremely interested in finding out the differences between the two models; and possible doing some work to make my 330ci closer to the clubsport model. I have looked in many places and even e-mailed some dealers but since the car never came to the US they couldn’t look anything up.

Get a heat gun and take the sound dampening black tar stuff out from under rear seat and trunk. I've done it I think its around 20 lbs. You'll need some goo gone or some other citrus spray to clean up after.

You should put the headrests back. They prevent death in a serious accident.

Don't worry I only have rear seat passengers maybe twice a year :eeps:
I find the better rear visibility at all other times is more beneficial.

The bushes are great! It's satisfying to have much more robust parts installed. The only wear items I expect to have to replace within the cars life are the RTABs (M3) and rear diff mount (Meyle HD).

What he means OP is that they prevent YOUR death (driver and passenger) in accident caused by your head whip-lashing backwards in the event someone rear ends you. So think about you and your wife/gf, whatever, getting rear ended at a stop light while driving out to dinner. There's all kinds of idiots out there, so protect yourself and your passenger.

Good documenting everything, it's useful info, but unless you're tracking you're regularly tracking your car or drag racing... why bother when every 100lb's is roughly 1/10th of a second faster.

Yeah I would put them back if someone was going to be back there.

I might put them back as I now have a rear seat cover for the dog that attaches to the front and read headrest posts that I use every few weeks. So it's worth putting them back to ease fitting it.

How did you get the rear headrests out? I tried once and couldn't figure it out... I don't have a rear seat so they're only really annoying and ruining the aesthetics of it... No worry about passenger safety

From what I remember they just pull up, there is a notch in the posts and a clip below, see here:

I think it is also possible to pull the headreasts off the posts and then pull the posts out of the parcel shelf.

That's a good reduction. Now i'm considering removing spare wheel tire/jack/chock. i'm sure it'll bite me in the @$$ one day though...

Seriously, how much difference can 81 pounds make? I wouldn't want to walk a couple miles or wait for a tow truck just because I wanted to save the weight of the spare and jack. Remove all that insulation and your car sounds like you're riding in a Mini. But you're still rolling on the 19's right?

I found a good way to shed weight of a full size spare, the E46 non-M with 18" wheels had a dounut spare, so i upgraded my wheels to 18s anyway, so I took out my fullsize 17" spare, and replaced it with the oem 18" doughnut and spare cover.

Another thing you should do is get rid of the hevy sunroof. You rareley use it, and not only will you make it light, but you will shift the center of gravity LOWER.

I went to the track, 325ci stickshift, ran the 1/4 mile at 15.6

took out the spare, rear seats and ran a 14.9
